Pwr mode to Eco

Hey guys, as you all know the sl's have the pwr and Eco modes on them. I was wondering if its safe to switch the modes while your driving or if it could be potentially harmful? I've done it and it doesn't seem like its bad except you can tell the car jerks just a little bit. Thanks again.

Your talking about the automatic, lotss of automatics have that function . When you push the button and engage the PWR mode it makes a change in where the automatic will shift. No it won't hurt anythign to hit it at any time seeing as though all it can do is tell the car to shift a little late.

Yeah, I switch it to power whenever I'm racing or there's a girl in the car.lol. It just makes the engine rev out to 6500 rpms instead of 5500. And I've also noticed that it stays in the gear longer and is quicker to downshift when the pedal's to the floor.

So basically taking overdrive off?

glad someone asked, i was wondering the same thing. i'm guessing overdrive is the same way?
while we're on the topic, does anyone have any idea how much more gas is consumed in pwr mode?

Overdrive and Pwr to Eco are two different things. And Roth, A LOT of gas is consumed in pwr mode. I used it for a week straight once, let's just say I spent a helluva lot more money on gas that time! The MPG goes from bout 20-25 to like 15. That's not expert figures or nothin, just something to go on.

put it this way.. i have drove 15 mins. in pwr with a heavy foot, and i burn about a 1/8-1/4 of a tank :) ... and i can go about 70 miles in eco, with takin it easy, to burn that much
OD off is dif. than PWR ... notice w/ od off it will stay at 3 grand driving about 55... with od on it will be at 2 grand with the same speed.. but in PWR those rpms stay the same at those speeds... just shift points are different

yes, i understand what od does, what i meant to ask is does it hurt to engage/disengage it at certain times?
i generally turn it on when i'm at speed (50-60ish), and turn it off at the first stop after i hit the city streets.
i've been told that using it in city trafic can be detrimental to your transmission...

Yea, i have an auto stealth and i drive on PWR mode all the time....with overdrive off....(i like to toy around with all the civic ricers or wut not)and usually i get 15 mpg...kinda crappy....especially when my bro has an o4 silverado with 33's and he gets 17 in a V8....

Well I've never felt the car jerk when I used to switch from power to economy, never seemed to be a problem...but then again my tranny did blow lol, but i'm pretty sure that was from the neutral drops I was doing the night before it went. Overdrive just doesn't let the car shift out of third gear. The way to bypass any switches is to use the automatic shifter as a manual (put it into first gear and push it to second when you want). Some stats on shifting points: First gear redlines around 56 MPH, second around 87 MPH, and third somewhere near 132 MPH, never redlined fourth lol. And don't worry it is meant to be able to do that.

Me and my dad tried to put it on... when putting it on we had to cut part of it because it was hitting on the metal piece in the front....after that was done it slide in to place fairly easy... but then on the sides where the signals are it was bent up about half an inch.. so we ended up takin it to the body shop...also u will have to get the 3000GT turn signals.... another thing about mounting it is that the clear pieces in front of the lights didnt go back in.. so the body shop had to cut some off so it slide right in...if ur getting the complete body kit like i have then with the sideskirts u will have to get the 3000GT doorskins... they cost me $1000 ....u might be able to find them in a junkyard somewhere tho... also on the rear bumper, they cut out a rectangle so the liscence plate bolts to the frame.. and in my opinion that looks like crap.. u can see what im talkin bout in this link http://www.bomexaero.com/images1/gto/ad172.jpg.... we had the body shop fiberglass that in...what body kit are u getting exactly??

Well that's the fastest your gonna go (pwr on, OD off) in drive. But like I said earlier, put it in first gear and redline to second is faster (hit 55 in first), I forget when it shifts if you just have it in drive, but it's slower when you let it do all the work, i've timed it.

gotta be careful doing that manually.. i know on my car if i push it into second at 4500 it wont change til 5500... it takes a 1000rpm b4 it changes after u have moved it... but how is it slower if its in D? if u floor it from a start .. or floor it period,it will shift at 6500 .. but does any1 ever have a problem with there engine bogin down?.. sometimes when im takin off it will take forever to get up to speed then when i hit the gas more it will jump down a gear until i let off

I have that problem sometimes, but it's when I'm in eco. Sometimes, when I've been driving hard and put the pedal to the floor, it doesn't downshift or does so very gradually. From takeoff, if you have the pedal to the floor and it doesn't respond, let completly off for a second, do it again, and it downshifts. When I'm in power and I hit the pedal to the floor, every time it responds with a very quick downshift.(Must have when driving with a chick in the car!) And yes, Pwr on and OD off from a stop is the fastest combination in an auto. But I don't shift manually b/c I've found that it's actually faster to leave it in drive.(Don't fight me on this b/c it's just my opinion. Everyone's different)

Same thing here, after driving like the 16 year old i am ;), you can floor it and it seems like your barely hitting it. If u let off and hit it again the car will rock back and jump hard, you can really feel it downshifting. I guess our babies just get a little tired after a while. Still love them more than any other car though.

it isn't bad to let it off and punch it is it? i might try doing that...

I noticed if u start out slow.. then try to get up a lil faster its already changed into the next gear cuz ur not pushing down the pedal as much, so when u hit it more it will drop a gear an get up to speed.. but as far as flooring it from a start it picks up great.. i hit 90 yesterday very quick :) but i have new plugs in mine from when i changed the engine... and say if im drivin 40 or so, then floor it, mine will hesitate for a split second then the front of the car raises an so do the rpms :)
