S2000 and maybe WRX/Evos?
mazda miata (and mazdaspeed especially).
Do the cars have to be japanese? Youre really limiting your options in that way.

Let's not open up the FF drifting conundrum and stick to RWD cars for the sake of saving civility.
As far as current or recent production cars are concerned (that are affordable, trying to keep it under 50K) here's what you should keep an eye out for. Some are better than others, but this is the basics.
Chevrolet Camaro Z28/Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
Pontiac GTO
Ford Mustang GT
Mazda Miata
Honda S2000
Chrysler 300C
Nissan 350Z/Infiniti G35
BMW 330ci
Mazda RX8
Chevrolet Corvette
and if you're really bold
Infiniti M45
Mercury Marauder
Cadillac CTS
Chrysler 300C Hemi
So, there you have it. I may have missed some, but that's the basics of what you could walk into a showroom, buy, and then drift with some measure of competency.

i just watched my friend's copy of the 2002 gumball rally, and for the driftin section there was a last-gen 300zx doin sick 5-second drifts. idk how they are outside that video, but it was unbelieveable stuff. the FF probly makes it weird, but maybe the qeight offsets that? idk.
Otherwise yeah the is300 is pretty cool for that.

LoL No prob! I know a guy who owns one (Coupe) and he and my brother (FC Rx7 NA) did a lil' drift exhibition out where I live. That car has more than enough power to get side-a-ways. If people aren't afraid of dinging up that $30K exterior I see no-reason why they shouldn't be competing professionally! They are excellent cars and the aftermarket parts-list is growing as we speak! I wouldn't mind picking one up in a bit... when I can afford it!

g35 has soft springs i think so it'll look weird drifting.and handle weird. rwd cars are the best at drifting,i think, but the awd are harder and the ff are hardest. thats what i thing. ff has lower polar than the rest but bad for drift and drag. there just chaeper.

i dont know why youd want a new car thats drift friendly. id be worried about scratching a brand new car.....and what if you wreck it? which...i know from personal experience, will happen when you drift.

^ Why not? Take pride in your car's appearance... hey that's cool... but don't be a wuss to bang it up! Be a man and suck it up! I can't stand most of these kids that POSE and have 'drift' cars but will never actuallt drift 'em because they are scared to bang up their car or scratch a lil' paint!

Not sure if your refering to the 300zx when you mention FF, because a 300zx is RWD making it an FR car.

pontiac trans am and z28's drifting???? I think not, nose heavy and has solid rear axles = not very good handling and thus not very good for drifting

Ugh... you guys got me posting in this old thread...
Nose heavy cars are better handling... plus better for drift! Why do you think cars such as the MR2 have such a hard time drifting? Too much weight in the rear!!! It's a common misconception that 50/50 weight or less/more weight ratio is better! Not true! The best handling cars have a ratio of more/less weight ratio...

I usually agree with ya so im going to have to ask for examples of the "BEST HANDLING CARS" with a front weight bias. EVERY Great handling car I admire is either MR, RR, or the RX-7. All with even (or close) weight distributions.
I will agree that nose heavy cars are ideal for predictability during cornering, which helps with drifting.

from what ive read about the s2000 is that the steering made the drifting " not quite right" on the rsr s2k they modified the steering rack with a mazda rack, making the car have more free range to steer/also increasing the rigidity and HP is a must because it was built to stick, not slide

hope it was a FD rack cause the FC has no real angle for drifting

that's the problem... it's either cheap FF economical cars... or mad-expensive FR heavyweight boxers. Unless, of course you were rich enough to afford bumping up your new Z or G35.

Seeing as S15s weren't sold here, and that they're out of production as of 2002. Good luck with that.
Shall we close this?.. it's way old... c'mon people. :p
