99 Expedition getting bad mpg after battery disconnected

I read where you have to drive 10 miles after reconnecting the battery before the computer resets itself (or something like that)

A friend of mine told his car (BMW) had some strange things to reset the computer correctly. like he had to drive 5 miles at 50mph, turn off the car, then go 10 miles @ 30mph, then trun off the car again, then...... (I can't remember). is there something weird like that I have to do to get my car running like normal.
