Is it really worth it?

I'm currently driving a 1995 Civic EX that's had quite a few problems so far. The rear wells were rusting (which I got sanded out/fiberglassed), it's got problems with the sunroof and some other interior electronics (heater icons don't light, etc)..
The biggest thing is that the body might be twisted just slightly due to a wreck..
Is it worth it to invest a lot of money in something that could have some serious problems later? There's a chance it won't but would any of you do it?
My other option is that I'm hopefully getting a well paying internship this summer, and if I sold my civic I might be able to upgrade to something nicer.. perhaps and integra GSR or Eclipse GS/T/X.
Thoughts?

I'd find out if the body is twisted or not first. If it is, then sell the thing (be honest to the buyer though) and get something better. No point in pumping a ton of $ in something that isn't going to drive right.

Well I know for sure that the roof is twisted at least the tiniest bit, because we put in the money to get a new moonroof motor and still found out that the moonroof only opens to about 80% open.. the shop that did it told us that it's because the track is misaligned the tiniest bit because the roof is a little out of place.

Hm.. I guess I should start thinking about looking at other cars..
I was thinking maybe a 2000 Eclipse if I could find one for a decent price..
Maybe a Prelude..

The new eclipse is shit. Go with the last generation eclipse, or an 98-01 integra.

Any input beyond "it's shit"? Why? Just because you don't like them?
Not really that into integras.. used to like um, my neighbor is hooking one up now.. I dunno don't really like um that much.

Yes, that is pretty much why I called them shit. The last generation of Eclipse was great, and great looking. The new ones, egh. Integra's are great if thats what you like.
By all means, get what you want, but if an opinion is what your looking for, get the last body style eclipse.

Again, yes. I do not know anything about them. My opinion, there shit. I do like the older ones though.
PS. Perhaps you know a great deal about them and can tell us all.

nope, don't know a whole lot about them. As to why I'm not going to sit here and say whether they are or not. It's amazing how ignorant people are.

The last gen Eclispe (which was the current gen until the soon to be released re-designing, which also has no turbo option) didn't come with a option for a factory turbo'd car, meaning no 4G63 motor and turbo like the GST or GSX had...also they didn't come with the AWD option, like the earler years had in the GSX trim line...
the 2nd the last gens (the last gen DSM Eclispes and Talons) had what is refered to as a 7-bolt head. Their motor (4G63) could stuffer crankwalk at higher boost levels, a bad thing...it is kind of hit or miss...The ealier DSM's (Eslipses, Talons, etc) also had an option for an AWD model, and also could come with a 4G63 motor and a turbo. These ones had a 6 bolt head. They generally don't suffr crankwalk, so thats not a worry or a problem. Some think they don't look as good, however. The GST and GSX are the Eclispes turbo'd models (GST =2wd, GSX = AWD) The Talon TSi I believe is the turbo'd Talon model.
In case you didn't realize, DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors, since the Eclipse, Talon, and Plymouth Lazer were all basically the same car, designed in collaberation by Chylser and Mitsubishi. There were some other DSM's, but the commenly know ones are the Eclipses, Talons, Lazers etc. The N/A DSM Eclipses have what is basically a Neon engine, the Turbo'd ones have a 4G63. As I said, first gen is a 6bolt head, 2nd is a 7bolt head. 7 bolt heads can suffer crankwalk, and it's kinda hit or miss.

You seem like you know a good bit about the eclipse. With that in mind, which would you recomend for our good friend. A newer model, or an older one? In fact, if you had the money to get either one, which would you spend it on? Just curious!

I know the 2nd gens have a "420" neon motor (i think thats the engine code)...anyways, it's the same motor a neon has. I was not aware the non-boosted 1st gens had a 4G63 off boost. I know that the 2nd gens have a Neon motor...I mentioned that since the whole arguement above was that "eclispes suck, I hate 2nd gens."

I would get a second or first gen DSM GST or GSX. I wouldn't get the new ones. I would want boost out of the Esclipse. Whether it's the first or second gen would depend on who important looks are, etc...and whether you think it's worth it to get a higher mileage motor to get the 6 bolt. If you're not looking for crazy ass power, I'd go 2nd gen, a little less wear and tear. If you're looking for mad gains, the threat of crankway might scare you, so 1st gen could be a better option there. Either way, I'd go with a GST or GSX...forget the new Esclipses...no AWD GSX, no turbo...they're not my thing.

he doesn't like the 3rd gens. I don't know a whole lot about the 3rd gens, but I don't see why a V6 wouldn't be a good platform to mod unless they develop some serious problems like the 2nd gens had with crankwalk.

Not all 3rd gens came with a V6. The GS has a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder motor. The GT and GTS have a 3.0 liter, V6 motor. For one, you need to make sure you're getting the trim line that had the V6 if that what you want, becuase not all of them have it. The GTS adds variable induction to the V6 motor, something the GT V6 lacks. It also raises the compression ratio to 10.0:1. The other 2 have a 9.0:1 c/r. It's basically a claimed 10 crank HP bump.
The GS 2.4 SOHC 16 vavle I4 motorhas a 9.0:1 c/r and is a claimed crank 147hp@5500rpm, w/ 158 lbs-ft of torque@ 4000 (6000rpm redline)
The GT SOHC 24 vavle 3.0 liter V6 has a 9.0:1 c/r and is a claimed crank 200hp@5500rpm, w/ 205 lbs-ft of torque@
4000rpm (6000rpm redline)
The GTS 24 vavle 3.0 liter V6 w/ variable induction has a 10.0:1 c/r and is a claimed crank 210hp@5750rpm, w/ 205 lbs-ft of torque@3750rpm (6200rpm redline).
If I were going to boost a newer Eslicpse, I'd choose the GT..a lower more turbo friendly c/r, but it has the V6. Still, these motors weren't made for boost though, you have to remember, so you can't crank it up stock like with an old 6 bolt.
My ideal set-up would be a 2nd gen with a low mileage 1st gen 6 bolt swapped in. Get the looks of the 2nd gen without the possiblity for crankwalk if you really crank the boost up. This won't fly in cali though, but you could work it in some areas.
If I were to go with a newer ones, I'd go GT. I don't need variable induction, and the lower c/r of 9.0:1 is a lot more benifital if forced induction is in your plans than the extra claimed 10 crank HP you'd get from the higher c/r and variable induction.

I know not all of them had the V6, but for performance, especially in an Eclipse where the turbo is no longer an option, I'd go for the V6. Hell, my sentra has a bigger motor than the 4 cylinder eclipse

Yea, if I were going with the newer Eclispe, I would never consider the 4 banger, especially since a turbo is not an option. Weak for the size too....147HP?? Thats about the same as the B18B1, less than the GSR, but with .6 more liters. Not great output for the size y any means. If you are looking to boost it, I'd go with the GT...If you want to stay N/A and do minor mods, then the GTS might be the better choice.
