I am driving down the highway and i see this nice Camao, good paint job and everything,http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/auto/car-smiley-010.gif and all of a sudden i see lights flashing from it and it pulls over the car in front of me!http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung0304/auto/car-smiley-011.gif I never had a ticket and i want to keep it that way so im trying to find out what all the unmarked squad cars look like. I found that the attena is one give-away, are there any others? Post pics of the cars if you can, thanx.

Unmarked can be, but not all of them:

Chevy Impala (2000+)
Chevy Caprice(about 1995)
Ford Crown Victoria
Chevy Camaro

Try to look at rims, if they're black than it's most likely a cop. Antennas are a big giveaway also.

There is no way you can tell an unmarked car. Hence the name "unmarked." The cops let you see what they want you to see. I even saw three cops jump out of a rusty old VW rabbit and yank a guy from his car, lol.

some states have special plates for municipally owned vehicles, look at the liscence plates on marked cop cars to see if they have anything different than regular ones, then look for those characteristics on cars you suspect might be cop cars. In MI its an X in the middle of the plate #

Alot of them will have the small square blue light on the rear deck; of course that doesn't help when they're following you.

Unmarked cars usually have extra side mirrors, one on top of there. why this is, I do not know but those are the ones that I've spoted.

look for the spotlight right above the driver side mirror

I do alot of night time driving. One thing I have observed is that police headlights are never out of adjustment. Almost always perfect. So while driving at night and you see a car coming or a car behind and the headlights are out of adjustment, even slightly. You can 'pretty well bet' it's not a cop.

i'm in the UK, not the US, but...

most unmarked cars near me are either bmw 3er touring or volvo v70 or s70. either way they are very very rarely more than three years old. this is what i look for:

there will always be two people in the car (wearing white shirts)
there will be two rear view mirrors
lights in the grill (red and blue) with dark lenses but you can usually spot the outline of them
a scrolling text display in the middle of the parcel shelf which you can see by looking down the middle of the car

93rollaracer, i saw a crown vic taxi with a spotlight on the side :weird: , I just learned how their head lights look and when speed always look in my mirrors.

now i'd hope that you could tell the difference between a cop car and a taxi...i dunno maybe it's tougher than i thought :icon16:

lol...i always just found the spotlight the easiest way to identify an undercover cop

AHHHHH son of a bitch cop just caught me yesterday. And guess what, ironically by an undercover cop. Goodbye squeaky clean record. 76 in 60. $190. Dam pig. I live in Oklahoma, the highways are empty most times but the limit is 60 however the average speed flow of traffic is 70 to 75. Bullshit.

*edited- sorry didnt mean to post the first one.

Looking at headlights at night, cops never have xenon lights, etc. (at least in my area) and the Crown Vic headlights are both normal white, but they also orange colored lights on at the same time next to the grill. (look at a pic of a crown vic and you'll know what i mean) So, you might want to slow down if u see lights like that.

I was living around Atlanta last half year, and average speeding rate is 35 above the limit. AVERAGE, you read this...the limit is 55 over there...

sorry about that NoenAtron, that must suck.
By the way here in Atlanta the speed limits are 65-70 on high ways and 45 on normal roads. On high ways usual speed is 70-75, and interstate is 75-85mph. On normal roads ppl go around 50-55 mph

we have camaros and mustangs. The camaro has:
Really tinted windows all the way around
normal AZ plates
lights are in the rear window and attached to the sun visors so u can't see them unless they want you to
The rims look factory alloy

I had the camaro's plate for a while, but i never distributed it because that would defeat the purpose of an unmarked car. A friend of a friend got pulled over by the camaro. i've only seen the mustang once.

here in nb canada we have all kinds of undercovers, lots of crown vics, impalas, and not there using a big dodge hemi, our cops have harleys too, nice waste of our tax dollars

I know here in NY, most all cop cars are Vics or Intrepids. I can usually tell by the rims or they usually have reinforced bumpers. They have the two plastic "wedges" spaced like a foot and a half apart in the front and back. thats usually a give away

Cops scare me, I never speed if theres a guy in a car looking at me intently lol.

I have seen everything from Corvettes to the new Hummers, but a lot of times no matter what kind of car it is they will have those steel push bars on the front.

I'm confused, did you say the undercover cop in your very first post was driving in an unmarked Camaro?

The dark blue Crown Vic's with black steel wheels, heavy tint on the windows and big ass antenna on the trunk are dead giveaways. Any Impalla these's days are a possible threat (especialy white with the black steel wheels). I find most unmarked cars have small aftermarket light fixtures mounted to the front grill, up on the back windshield inside the car, or as somebody already mentioned hanging from the top inside the front of the car.

Not many other models out there still being used by cops in my area. I've seen one or two marked late model Chevy Lumina's but thats it. lol my buddy got bit years and years ago by one of those unmarked cars - it was the colour that threw us off, it was blue(almost baby-blue but not quite), and to this day I can remember joking with my friend when it pulled into the parking lot saying, "maybe its a cop" hahahaha - ya tough luck Boris. :grinno:

I have a plan for you guys. To figure out which cars are 'ghost' cars in your area, just speed all the time and if possible ram every vehicle that looks remotely cop-ish. Then you'll find out for sure! And you might even get a feel for the undercover helicopters and things like that, too, if you're aggressive enough!! :grinno:
The best way to avoid undercover cops is to not drive like an idjit, and if you're flying 15-20 mph over, you're getting what you deserve.
Speed a little but not a lot and they'll leave you alone.

Or you could drive by ur local police station and check out the parking lot....

Immagining someone aggresive enough to ram unmarked helicopters in mid-flight to check if they are the po-po...

It all depends on the cop, and the situation. You know I thought of this thread on Friday night when a cop had to pass me on the freeway. It was after 11pm and we were heading downtown on the QEW. Being kind of late there wasn't much volume (about 4-5 car lengths between everyone, then patches of open road). The slowest of traffic was zipping bye at 120 km/h and I was tailing this Integra in the fast lane. We had just merged onto the freeway and scooted over to the left lane and there was this one set of lights behind me that for some reason I thought might be a cop (I still haven't learned the new Crown Vic lights very well). Anyways, I keep 4 cars behind the Integra and my passengers and I start debating something and get totally distracted. Next thing I know there is a car about to pass me very slowly in the middle lane (really slow - like 2-3 km/h faster than me). It gets almost beside me and sure enough Isn't it a fully marked OPP cruiser - I look down at my speedo and we're smack dead on 140 kph... I slowed down to 130 but we were all laughing like whats the point?! This guy didn't care (nobody else was slowing down lol), and its not like he was in a big hurry either, he casually merged onto another highway and was gone.

Sure set a nice example for the rest of us - passing everyone in the middle lane!! :grinno:

You know, we should consider ourselves lucky...compared to Japan that is. Do you even know what they use for cop-cars? All the monsters. Anything from an Acura NSX to an R34 to...you name it, they probably have it as a cop car.

They also use Ford Mustangs and F150 4x4s down here (Mississippi)

The headlights on cop cars always have a distinct look to them. Very perfect. But just the other day I saw a silver camaro with blue lights flashing from inside the windshield. Apparently he pulled over some kid. It had no marks or anything, just a silver camaro with regular camaro rims. Just because you are speeding doesnt mean you are driving unsafe. I think that if you are paying enough attention to the road to notice a cop coming, and slow down before they notice you are speeding, then you are safe enough. But WHO doesnt go 10-15 mph over somtimes on the highway? Tricking an attentive driver, by pulling them over in an unmarked camaro is un cool. I see where they are going with this... "Never speed, because you never know"... but seriously... the speed limit, all day every day? Nobody is capable of that except for my mom.
