V6 stang vs GT stang

Ok, last night me and a friend are driving along just having some fun when we pull up to a light and I'm behind my friend and next to him is a 96-98 mustang GT vert. The light turns green we are making turn and as soon as the GT gets out of the turn he punches the gas and then slows back down. I figure this guy is probably gonna beat me but I wanted to see what would happen so I get up next to him( BTW I have a 97 V6 stang) and we are going about 60mph I drop it into 2nd in my auto, I do this just so I can get a better jump without the car downshifting. Anyway we are going along and I gas it a couple times to try and see if he'll go. Finally, he does and I punch it right after him and to my surprise he's not pulling on me, we start going down a hill and he starts to slowly pull and at 85mph I was at his door and then I heard a loud pop come from his car and he slows down. I just kept on going, I lost but I was very surprised at the race. The rest of the night I was all smiles. :biggrin:

you say you have an automatic and you dropped it into second is that the 2d second or is your car a manual? if you meant 2d that wasnt going to help you cept for mayabe of the line buddy! also he's got a gt, you have a v6 i beleive thats a 2.something so he was probably not trying hard!

His car must have been running like crap or he wasn't trying. Your car has less than 200HP and you weigh just about as much as he does.

This is what must have happened. When you heard the sound, his engine blew so he was just rolling downhill. As he was picking up speed he passed you without any engine power.

The guy was trying, I could tell by his exhaust he was at WOT and I have an auto and yes I dropped it in 2D and it does help cuz if you leave it in drive then the car has to downshift and that takes more time than just punching it and the car taking off instantly and in case I didn't mention this he had an auto too.

Yeah, and then his exhaust flame thrower that he got from ebay put his car in flames and he smashed into and tree and right before his car blew up batman saved him and after that him and batman did burnouts in the batmobile and his 24" spinners singing "kumbaya" and when they were done the guy said to batman "mann, popp za hood, watz you gott unerrrr zerrr" but batman pointed to the stickers on his window and said "chek it out dawg, I ain't got to pop no hoooddsss to show you what I got, just look at my window, look at dem decals dawg" and as the guy was drooling over the vinyl stickers they caught up to you and he said "I'll be back" with an Austrian accent and then the batmobile couldn't keep up with the V6 mustang and by the time you hit 200 mph he was 3 carlengths back so you slowed back down and batman honked 3 times and you pulled 3 cars instantly so he went back to his house to get his batplane and he said "wanna race" but the V6 stang still beat his plane and batman said "that thing ain't got no 150 horses dawg, dat thing be underrated" and right before he flew off with his austrian friend he said "i'll race you for slips" but right as he was about to beat you paul walker and tyrese came with a pink eclipse and pushed your car ahead of batman and now you're a sole owner of a batplane while batman and his austrian friend had to hitchhike so batman said "fuck the free world" and the austrian guy said "where did zatt come frrom" so batman took off his mask and it turns out he's Jay Z who said "i've seen 8 mile 32 times dawg" so he challanged the austrian guy to battle him and as they flipped it and dipped it into salsa, ripped it he told him to zip it because he heard a car ya hearrrrd and suprinsgly jay lenno was driving by with his new Carrera GT but there wasn't enough room for all three so the austiran guy said "no probelm" ripped his skin off and they realized he was made out of metal so they used him as a spoiler to catch you

you realize your gonna screw up your tranny by doing that right? i'm surprized the smell of burnning ass didn't knock you out... i doubt highly you could stick neck to neck with a gt stang especially in the same weight less hp v6.... I can't hang with a stang... and i've tried before... he had me at 85 by a car length and a half, and by 130 he was G O N E.

anways this is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. A V6 mustang from 97 automatic, will run at best a low 16 second 1/4 mile. No way you hung or beat a V8 mustang, unless his car broke or he wasnt racing.

hey dont flame the guy yet..i got a 97 V6 auto too and ive been able to keep up with my friends 95 GT.....Yall guys act like the pre-2000 GT's are f*cking speed machines but they aint....They got a less than a respectable 215HP....Thats basically the same HP rating from the late 80's 5.0 GT's and LX's...The only true fast out of the box GT is the 05 with 300HP baby

damn you people are harsh on the poor guy. There could've been a million reasons he kept up with that stang:
1. it could've been having bad engine problems(sounds like it)
2. it could have just been another v6 with an exhaust
3. its an auto pos
4. the other guy may have reacted too late

either way there are so many different possibilities, but theres no need to flame him,he was just sharing a story and thats what the forums are for.

Thats like saying a 99+ v-6 will keep up with a 99+gt up to 110
or the 05 v6 will keep up with the 05 gt and will be at the gt's bumper at 110 :rolleyes:

You probably raced another v-6 with gt badges and dual exhaust or the gt was running on 6 cylinders or the guy in the gt had the gas pedal pushed 3/4 down.

The 94-98 gt's weren't much stock but compared to a 94-98 v-6...the 215hp/285tq gt would have no trouble beating the 150hp/215tq v6.

hey didnt you post your 1/4 times in the v6 mustang a while back and it was like a 16.7?

ok i ran a stock looking 2000+ GT in my cavalier. Now my cavys best 1/4mile so far was 14.7. The GT and i were dead even. I dont think theirs a chance in hell you kept up.

Agreed, been seeing it for a while, also happens with the v8 owners, but to a bit lesser extent, and they can back it up at least.

i dont see a v6 keeping up with a gt, however as much as gt's are ragged on they are still a performance car capable of easily running down many of the v6 cars out there today

I'm not saying the GT is a supercar or anything, but I raced a pre-99 V6 stang in my parents Dodge Caravan and won by a nose. I'm pretty sure this is either a comedy, or it was a GT wannabe.

I'll agree with whoever said, "He's just telling a story, back off." And like many of you have pointed out, unless the GT owner posted here telling us what he was doing there are so many factors that you can look out. The V6 Mustang guy is my friend, awhile back I raced him in my G35Coupe and I got flamed for racing such a slower car and just messing around with him on the highway...Hmmm Should the GT owner be flamed for giving the V6 the time of day...Maybe he was just playing around too.

You guys can't sit here and tell me you have NEVER played chase or given a much weaker car a run, whether to show them up, shut them up, or if they were just your friend that wasn't as fast.

Any number of stories on here can be called BS for any reason...Does anyone really know if any race posted on here is completely accurate? Probably not. Facts of the race and then words on here are two different stories - unless videos/pictures etc, are brought into the mix.

So I'll just say give him a break and why let it bother you guys so much? He didn't say he WON or anything...He was behind about 1 car and they only raced for a total of 30mph difference [start60ish/finish90ish] Thats NOT a long race.

Finally, I just think its pure immaturity some of the God awful, pointless, posts....Grow up.
