I already have PIAA bulbs for my headlights and I wanted to change the bulbs in the foglights as well. I wanted to put in PIAAs for the foglights but the wattage is 55/65 but the stock wattage is 35. Is it okay if I just go ahead and put the h3 PIAA bulbs in anyway? has anyone found 35 watt h3s? thanks! :)

I wouldn't do that if I were you. You will need more power to make them work properly. You'll end up burning the sockets and wiring cuz the bulbs demand more power. Stick to whatever watts are handled by the fogs. If it's 35, look for 35 watt bulbs.

Old post, but i came across it. Most people in this forum put in a 55w bulb into the fog lights, and they have not had problems. So I dont know why you would say that it would burn sockets or wiring.

What are you talking about D? When I saw your fogs, they had the yellowish/gold thing going on :)

LOL guys :). that post he posted was way back in early June. look at the date under is avatar. Yeah he has them now ;)

anyway, I have 75 watt h3 bulbs on my p11 and have not had any problems. 75 Watt is the limit. anything over is too high.

75W foglights??? yikes!

I've used 55W and they always burnt out after a few months. I went through 4 sets (PIAA, Razo). I finally got 35W PIAA H3 Platinum Super Whites back in June and havent had a problem yet.

Whats up with this? Some people say they use 55w h3's and they have been fine, and some people say that their 55's have blown in a few months. who do i believe?

not sure if this helps or not, but i'm shutting off the lights before turning the engine off. piaa's site said somewhere to do this.

i don't usually turn on the fogs unless it's raining or fog. kinda stupid imo to have yellow lights on in a perfectly sunny day. planning to get superwhites for the fogs after winter.

I could be wrong, but I always thought that installing a bulb with LOWER wattage rating would burn sockets/wiring. Because the current is of a higher wattage and the bulb isn't using all the current, causing the wires to heat. I thought a bulb with a higher wattage just handled more  Again, I could be wrong, but I don't think high watt bulbs "demand" more power.

No.

Wattage = Power (Energy) being produced.

Really, I guess I'm wrong.

Oh well, in any event, I have 55W bulbs and they've been working for quite some time with no problem. The shop said to get equal to or higher than the wattage.

Wattage... err.. "Watts" is a measurement of Power aka Energy which is produced.

It is not a 'rating' or 'capacity'... it means, when your headlight bulb is powered by 12V it will produce 55 Watts of Power. (or whatever the Wattage rating is)

Now, the more 'Energy/Power' the bulb is producing, the hotter it will be and then... run into the melting issues.

Did I mention I have a degree in EE? ;) ...that is doing me no good in my current career I might add. So much for a investing in a college degree, I'm now a web administrator :D

Sorry, I wouldn't have questioned you if knew that :D My dad was an EE major too, but I guess that didn't rub off on me hehe. I'm a humanities person myself.

Hey, on another topic, a while ago you said you might do a write up on your HS CAI and AEM BPV install. Just wondering if that was still in the works or if you decided to scrap that project.

YEP!!!! Thats very important!!!!

The metal casing on the foglight is connected to GND (black wire), if the + (red) connection touches any part of the case, it will short and you'll either blow a bulb or fuse.

About the CAI write-up.. sorry.. never got to it.
