Gas Mileage?????

I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you people are getting with your Taurus and what model you have. Mine is a Taurus wagon with the 3.0l Duratec motor, and when I first got the car I was getting 30-32 mile to the gallon. I checked it last week and I'm down to mid 24-26. What's up with that?

I personally think the quality of GAS has gone to the crapper.... I've allways gotten poor milage with my 03 3.0 Vulcan (14-16) but have engine probs as well, so that is probably a factor.

But on another note.... a week ago I filled up at one station.... normally get 300mi till I need to fill up again(with room to spare)... (96 3.0 Grand AM GT).... got a whopping 213 on that tank. Filled up after that (different station) and now I'm at 250 with a quater tank left.

So you might just be getting bad gas...lol. Do you consistantly fill up at the same station (like I did)??

My 97 Sable w/3.0 Duratec gets 23-25 mpg. I can go about 300 miles before the light comes on. I agree that the quality of the gas is lower, but you can help yourself by keeping the car tuned up. When I bought this car I started (and still do) track my mileage every tankful. I increased the mileage by 3 mpg by replacing the air filter.

does it make any difference if you go the same co. station all the time vs switchin around. if i can help it i always go to qt. what about grades does it matter what kind you get considering that teir all unleaded now adays. are there any type of additives that might help milage or to run smoother?

If you're starting to get lower milage, then a switch for a couple of tanks to see what'd happen might be a good idea. Of course, I agree that all filters need to be clean & engine needs to be in good tune. Also, check tire air pressure to make sure they arn't low.

If you car doesn't require premuim (due to higher compression... advanced timing... etc) then the high octane gas can actually hurt milage as the companies tend to pack cleaners & extra addatives into the gas. plus higher octane gas is actually LESS combustable than lower octane... So, only high octane once in a while to make use of the extra cleaners & stuff.

Good LUck

i've been pretty impressed with QT's gas, but honestly the duratec will run on anything, I even ran it on 86 octane for awhile and it had no ill effects.

I get around 24-25 mpg urban cycle.

How can you tell a Duratech from a vulcan...??

Duratec is the all aluminum engine.

My '99 SE DOHC was getting in the 21-23 mpg range, recent plug change (75k miles) upped my mileage to to the 24-25 mpg range. Use nothing but Chevron regular with an occasional dose of Techron Concentrate.

34 mpg @ 70 mph.

Gotta love high compression motors!

the Duratec says "Duratec" on top of it, the Vulcan says "3.0 V6" on top of it

99 dohc, 375 miles to the tank, all highway in OKLAHOMA. I use a K&N airfilter and only thing wrong with it after 128,000 is a exhaust engine light do to the Filter pushing to much air....popped a small hole right behind the headers that i havent got fixed yet, a little louder now but gained major milage.....and yes i drive it hard daily. 80 miles round trip.

How do you equate "all highway" and "driven hard daily"? Highway driving is about the easiest driving on motors there is to be had..

meaning i use the acelerator for what it was built for, unlike my wife, who still when actually driving the speed limit, still slams on the brakes when shes sees anything resembling a cop.

So you accellerate and deccellerate constantly on the highway? I am still not seeing how this is hard on the car. I drive "more abusive" than my wife as well, but I would not consider her driving habits easy on the car. In fact, even though my cars see track time, and spirited runs daily, she is more abusive, and her cars always require more maintenance to stay on the road.
