convincing it to start,or trying to

Here's the problem the best I can describe it on here.
After the car has been setting for a couple of hours and when I go to start it,all I get is a click.After I turn the key and get about 4 or 5 more clicks it will start right up like nothing's wrong.The battery is good,cables are clean and already tried it in neutral,so if anyone has had this problem before or know what it is or might be I'm very open to suggestions. I am having the exact same problem: 1998 Dodge Intrepid ES with a 3.2 liter engine with 95,000 miles.

This started after driving through a flash flood a few months ago here in Tampa. I've had two different mechanics look at this and both came to the conclusion that the starter is beginning to go bad.

the starter in itself is not bad, it's just the starter solenoid that's shorting out. In the long run, you will have to replace the starter.

I just replaced the starter on my 2001 Intrepid. It started geting slower and slower when cranking the engine until it finally stopped. I hoped it was the battery, but the 2 hour replacement through the wheel well was a bad guess. I removed the starter/solenoid and had it tested. While it still would spin, it did not have enough power to turn the flywheel. It is a nasty job to replace also. Good luck.
