restoring a 66 fastback

When I was 6 I had two big boxes of scrap parts given to me one box was nothing but bodys and another box was all frames , engins, tires ,ect. Now 11 years later I still have most of the parts sadly when I was yunger and more stupid I messed up some of the stuff (damn) but most of it lived. a cuple years ago I "found" a 66 fast back in the bodys and started looking for the right frame and anything else that looked like it would work/fit on it and kinda tossed it all together . It has been settin on my shelf ever since with the same paint and stickers (its a drag car) that it had on it when I saved it from the box of death. I want to "restore" it now , the rear end of it setts way too high for a drag car so I`m gonna backhalf it and put some better slicks on it . The engin is very undetailed right now but insted of even trying to make it look good (its one of them engins where most everything is cast in it) I`m gonna use one of these engins with the blower off the old one ...

here is the old one, note the very sad engin bay...

the front...

the side, note how high the rear end is ...

the butt...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangB2.jpg
the under side , yes I did put one rear end infront of the other . I am repenting of my sins please forgive me...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangC2.jpg
I have already started on the cutting and grinding . I grinded the cast in trany and exhaust off then I cut the rearend off so I can backhalf it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangC.jpg
Does anyone know who made this kit ? I kow its realy old (ie older than my for sure) I think its purdy rare too its an altered (spelling sorry) car made for drag racing , note how close the rear tires are to the door vs. how they are on another rustang kit by it...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangand64stangrearends.jpg
Well if you`r still reading this thank you and if y`all know who and when this kit was made please tell me.

Hi 76 maverick,
Looks like a pretty ambitous project you have there, a nice one indeed. I have a few of those (older builds and unbuilt) I might get around to one of these days, but I am intersted to see your progress on it.
The kit itself is part of the AMT Street Freaks series from the days of old, and the Mustang was re-released in the late '80s early '90s as a mail-in limited edition. Still pops up on ebay every now and then.
I haven't pulled any of them out in years, but the tail light panel looks different and it seems that the SOHC 427 has been replaced. If you need any help with parts or a copy of the instuction sheet, just let me know.
Dave

I would love a copy of the instruction sheet !
but the tail light panel looks different and it seems that the SOHC 427 has been replaced.
Yes it only has/had a very undetailed 5.0 from my scrap parts .
I don`t know what the tail panel is from , I know its not from this one but its the only one that came close to fitting some odd years ago when I tossed this thing together :lol2:

Looks almost like a Cougar (67-69) tail panel (just a guess?)

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out...
Might even encourage me to dig out some boxes of old kits I "ruined" as a kid.
But at least I have a great box of spare parts since it took me years to actually finish a kit, and not smash it to pieces playing with it.

I will dig one out and e-mail it to you, might not be today, definitley tomorrow.
Its a tail panel from a mustang, probably from a custom variation in one of the early kits since they liked doing that back then. Don't know which one though.
Offer is open if you need anything that is not in your parts box. I'd like to see a 427 shoehorned back into the engine that on that one
http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/67327Picture.jpg
I just happend to have this one lying around, similar to what came in that kit.
The car is the HKS racing Altezza. I have a bit more done on it, so I guess I should update the pic one of these days.

Well I don`t have much money , so I don`t know if I could pay you what that engin is worth :banghead: :( . We could prolly trade something if there is anything you want or need ?.
I will dig one out and e-mail it to you, might not be today, definitley tomorrow.
Sweet thanks a ton !!!
I`m not gonna reuse the old tail panel , I`m just gonna make one out of flat plastic  .

I would love to use the tail panel that was on it but the bumper covers some of it and I don`t have any tail lights for it  .
I made a new panel for it out of some plastic I had settin around that will fit alot better than the other one...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangB3.jpg
I got started on the rear end but I got alot more work to do :)...

Yes sorry I`ll use a brighter flash for now on when I can.

Dang this rear end is taking some time!!! Keep in mind this is the first time I`ve ever done this much to a model (ie. cutting the frame in half and making up a latter bar system when I`ve never seen one in person) ...

I still have a little more to do on the rear end but at least most of it is done now !
This is how its gonna set when all is said and done...

Hmm, ladder bar. Well, I had a system on my 454SS silverado 1:1 with coilovers. Mine was like this ladder bar> |\/| <ladder bar The V in the middle hooked at the ends of the bars and the middle of the rear end on the bottom. Hope this helps some. Sweet paint idea

Thats a 3 link system , better for a street car (or truck) but not strong enough for a high horse power drag car as I understand it.
Sweet paint idea
Thanks!!!

Well, I'm not sure how much horsepower you're talking about. Seeing as my 1:1 454SS with modifications dynoed close to 570 wheel horsepower and about 586 ft lbs. With a set of slicks it ran mid 12's to low 13's pending on track and weather conditions. Then there were times when the truck would flop and pull a 16 second pass. I never figured out why sometimes it'd run fast and others it wouldn't. Anyway, I think the 3link would do nicely on this fastback, although its' just a model.

Realy you are right it would have looked better but I didn`t think about doing it that way at the time I was making it  . I prolly won`t redo the rear end now because it took me a LONG time to do that set up and I`d hate to take it apart to redo it :( .
No more progress on the model today , I had to take a break from that and fix some real cars :iceslolan .
BugZilla , how much do you want for that engin , my sister has payed me my money back now so I should have plenty...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/76maverick/m66stangF5.jpg
Ever since bugzilla said something about a bigblock I just couldn`t bring myselve to build a small block for it so I started digging through my scrap engins and found a bigblock out of an old bigfoot model :evillol: . I`ll be using it untill I get some money for the engin I wanna buy from bugzilla (the last of my money had to go into my 1:1 maverick  )

I found out that when you`r dog takes a dump on you bed and a leak on the blanket that you are prolly gonna have a bad day . The white mustang that I was gonna repaint is now scrap parts , my airbrush is broken now , and while I was making the MII front end my model knife slipped so I have a nice deep cut in the tip of my finger .
I got the paint done , it didn`t come out as good as I had hoped but its ok . The engin is now done and that is the last time I ever try to make plug wires with craft wire :banghead: .
