I don't have manual, but if I did I wouldn't...I think if your going nice and slow at low rpms it's not too bad for the tranny but at high rpms is a no no. :nono:

Why do people do that it accomplishes nothing. You have to go slow to do it, and if you are aiming at not using the clutch you could have just bought an automatic

It's not really that hard on the tranny if you do it right, and it doesn't neccesarily have to be done at low speeds. You just have to make sure you shift at the right RPM so the gears line up real nice and it'll just slide right in. It is however something for vey experienced drivers and I personally would not recommend doing it.

production cars use helicly cut gears, that are curved, they dont slide right into one another unless they are spinning at the exact same speed, which is very hard to do. clutchless shifting is normaly done in race cars, because they use strait cut gears that will slide into one another at a wide range of engine speeds. the tradeoff is that strait cut gears are noisy, and helicly cut gears are nice and quiet.

i only do it only when i get bored and am just driving normal....it doenst slow you down at all...you just use the brakes and gas instead of the clutch and it makes for a perfect shift...really smooth

I suggest that everyone that has a manual learn to do it and learn to do it well. I didn't think it would pay off, i was just messing around and learned to do it really well (once you learn it well in one car all cars can be shifted without much if any problem). Well when i was looking at A&M (400 miles away from my hometown) the clutch went out in my mom's explorer sport and i had to drive it for her the last 150 miles of the trip without a clutch. Only thing that sucked is having to kill it when i came to a complete stop to get it into first. But it came in handy and saved us a towing expense. Just my 2 cents.

To shift without the clutch is obviously going to be more wear and tear on your tranny, as explained by the fearless leader 89iroc... and I also believe everyone should learn to do it. My advice, learn on a ford for two reasons. One, if you mess it up, who cares, its a ford. And two, I have found it easier to do on a ford. Dunno why, but I have done it on two different fords. My ranger when i lost my clutch pressure about 1 1/2 hrs north. Waited till about 11:30 so nobody was on the road and drove it home fine. The other was my friends escort. Had to prove to her that you can shift without the clutch. She got kinda freaked at first. All you have to do is just rev it up a lil higher than usual, pull it out of gear (don't force it, when you back off the throtle it will come out real easy), and give it light pressure once the engine has calmed down a little. You dont need to really force anything, it all falls into place when its all lined up. If you don't do it right though, you'll know. So will everyone else around you too, lol.

If done right it's not any harder on your tranny then using the clutch...If done wrong your syncros could be screwed up. I'm not sure which is actually easier to shift without clutch, i've only done it in a few cars and it was just as easy in all of them (rx7,explorer,69camaro).

**Edit**
Went back and read Mod's post and did realize he had covered what i was saying. I didn't realize about the helical v. straight cut gears but with right rpm no damage done.

dude it only takes once for someone even with experince to catch the wrong tooth on the gear and blowing your transmission. To me you must be stupid i mean get a short shift and dont be lazy. makes me sick when i hear that crunch sound.

i'm not all that worried...if you've done it you know its pretty hard to F- it up....i dont do it for every day driving i just do it once in a while...im not lazy im just bored....once you've mastered the clutch it gets boring...once you master double clutching it gets boring...and now no clutch shifting is getting boring....time for some more power

pancho man is getting offended about the aerostar in his sig pic, lol. I'm just messin with you man. I actually had no intention of wanting my ranger till I saw it and drove it. That thing is a beast of a truck and is fun as hell. It got me through anything and could actually tow quite a bit for a lil 2.9. It towed a 74 couger to the junkyard. Good idea though about rippin on imports, but look at them. You don't even need to say anything about them, they disgrace themselves.

HAHA that is so true...i wanna get a digi cam so i can take pictures of all the riced up cars in my school....if I didn't know about cars, I'd swear they were a bunch of midget spaceships...Since that fast and furious movie, those cars took over my town, as for the whole aerostar, we actually own 2 ford F150s an 87 stang and the aerostar...but yeah fords are my favorite everyone in the family (uncles grandparents and everything) have fords, but i got a camaro, they ripped on me for a while but hey i just love muscle cars in general not just fords

I gave my friend Tim (mistsubishi evo) the idea or this clutchless shifting, he picked it up in about 2 minutes. This is right after we had a debate about how to push-start a manual car and me, he automatic driver, proved him wrong/my way right :p
