Diesel-fied MPV?

Hi all,
I live in the US where diesel MPVs are not available. However, the engine in my '96 MPV needs to be pulled and I'd like to replace it with a diesel engine. Surely I'm not the first person to try this. What are my options? I know that Mazda pickups in the early 80s had a 2.2 litre diesel engine. And I believe the Ford Ranger in the mid 80s was sold with a 2.3 Turbo diesel engine option. I really need some tips from someone who might know what kind of engine I should look for. I can deal with the sensors but I'd like to start with something that has a chance of matching the motor mounts and transmision bell housing.
