95 Aurora - Drivers Side Door Electrical Problems

Hi All,
I've search this forum & found a couple threads that gave me some ideas but thought I'd ask for help before getting too deep down the wrong trail. Here's my story . . . When opening my driver's door there were a couple spots thru the door travel that I noticed the interior lights would go out (also noted that in these "spots" power windows did not work either). If I would open the door slowly - lights are on, about 1/2 open they go out, then come on again, only to go out when door is fully open. I've had the car about 10 months & it's been doing this as long as I can remember. This was not a big deal as everything works when door closed . . . that is until yesterday when I foolishly thought I'd investigate the issue. Boy do I regret messing with things - :banghead:
With the door fully open I played with the wire harness leading out of the door -- gently turning/twisting to see if I could get interior light to go off and on. Sure enough I could, so I keep tinkering by moving wire harness to find a position where lights would stay on thru the door travel. I was careful not to apply too much force so didn't think I was doing harm.
Anyway, now I have a multitude of problems. 1) initially my power windows did not work -- this happened once, now they seem okay. 2) seat recline will not work -- when pressing adjust butten up or down I get a clicking from under seat. 3) When the ignition is turned on I get constant clicking from under seat (same clicking just mentioned - coming from a control box I think). 4) Also when the ignition is on the forward/aft power seat adjustments do not function -- works fine when ignition is off. One other thing - I noticed that periodically when the igition is on the clicking would stop . . . I attempted to adjust the seat fore/aft to see if it worked -- as soon as I touch it, it would move to the end of it's travel in one direction then not work until I turn off igition. I certainly need to get that fixed as it could be a serious safety hazard to driving should the seat adjust develop a mind of it's own.
As I mentioned this just happened yesterday. Haven't had time to get deep into it but I've got to think it's related to my trying to adjust that wire harness . . . could I have created (or agrivated an existing) short somewhere or blown a fuse that would cause all this mess? Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Rob

Did you pull the rubber boot out of the drivers door? It pulls back and replaces rather easily.

If you did not, insde the rubber boot you will find a mass of wires.

I located two wires broken in two on my 98.

I purchased a set of bullet splices at local Wal-mart and spliced the leads back with male/female bullet splices.

There is a bit of slack in the wires that will allow you to work with them. A couple sets of needle nose pliers worked wonders and I have had no difficulties since.

Good luck.
