I have an 87 Elco with305 v-8. I have replaced the starter, new battery(690cranking amps),and new cables +&-(both OEM specs) Starts great most of the time but every now and then when its warmed up and I go to start it I get that start that sounds like the battery is about to give up. I also added a ground strap from one of the starter mounting bolts to the frame. What am I missing here????

Hi, have seen some starters get hot from heat from the ex. headers being to close to the starter,if that is the case install a heat shield, also check timeing

Yep. Mine used to do it. I think it is called heat soak or some stuff like that, aftermarket companies sell a starter sheild or you can use header wrap or a type of exhaust wrap to keep the heat away from the starter. It can also be the motor is getting to hot as well, try and see what you are running temp wise.
