I'm coming home from work. I reach my house so i stop to make a left so i can pull into my drive way. I always check my rear view to see if any idiots are speeding and low and behold i see some moron in a Ford 4x4 pick up coming at me fast. Not the newer pick-ups either. One of the old ones, the ones that are really iron-tough. So i see him, but i thought the dude was gonna stop in time ... suddenly i hear Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeccccchhh. I already had my car in 1st, so as soon as i heard him screech i *tried to take off. I almost took off, but i didn't have enough time. The guy hit me pretty hard i guess. I stood inside my car for like a full minute just thinking ........... sigh ..... did dis dude just fukin hit me from behind ..... SIGH. It didn't even feel like he hit me that hard, but when i got out of the car and looked at it's back ..... Wow. The back of it is completely fuked up. The whole back bumper is dented down. The middle (between bumper and trunk) is dented totally inwards, and my trunk is dented too ... oh AND my back windshield as well. Back lights, everything. The only thing that stood intact was my spoiler.
I'll see if i can get some pics tomorrow and i'll post them on here but wow ... it's pretty bad. I'm just glad i'm ok :) My 3kgt's ass isn't though. I better get some good damn money out of this. It's painjob and 3kgt Upgrading time! ... 1-2 months without a car though ....... sigh ....

Doesn anybody have any idea as to how much the tail lights are? Back bumper? Trunk? stuff like that. And yea i totally filed a police report. After he crashed me i even took a pic of his plates with my cell phone just in case anything went on. The guy's car had about a 5'' dent on it and it wasn't even that noticable.

i posted a while back on a wreck i got in a year ago: no damage whatsoever to my car, but the guy i hit from behind, $1200 worth of damage to his bumper, muffler, et al.
so ya, it sucks for both of you, but at least its clear who caused the wreck and whose fault it is. i hope you got his insurance info, as Igovert asked. good luck with all this man.

When he bought it , it already had the wing and I like it. The stock wing looks good but it dosent do shit for downforce, that wing he has is functional.
but wow it looks worst in light. crap I say after Nitro gets his stuff resolved and fixxed we all go out and find the crackhead that did this, tie him to the back of my car and go for a 140mph run down the interstate!

downforce isn't really EVER an issue when driving our cars. the only time it would be an issue is at speeds over 100mph. and most of the time when, IF, we're travelling at those speeds, its just for a quick run, not for prolonged periods of time. But ok, let's say it IS an issue, then he would need to put a front air-dam on the bottom of his front bumper (like a wing on the bottom of the front bumper) to counter balance the downforce. Think of it like this, if you just slap a huge spoiler on the back of a car, and then go really really really really ridiculously fast, then you will produce lift, your nose will lift up, and you'll probably flip and crash and die. so you would need a second 'wing' to add downforce to the front of the car (just like the Indy Racing Formula 1 cars have: wing in back up top, wing in front down low).
This is why the VR4 model has the Active Aero Wings. At speeds above 50mph, the rear spoiler would tilt to provide more downforce, and the front air dam under the bumper would lower to provide more downforce on the front. you gotta balance the forces.
so basically all aftermarket spoilers are just for show, and aren't very functional at all. but i can guarantee you this, most, if not all, of the people who purchase aftermarket spoilers, do so for aesthetic purposes, not for stability/aerodynamics.

I agree with everything you said except this^
c'mon I know that apc and aerospeed crap is just for show but "all aftermarket"??? look at all the JGTC and D1 cars, all the DTM GT and LeMans racers, all have huge freaking spoilers (front and back) not all companies out their are making fake wings. yeah most people add them on for looks but they still function. companies like Cusco, Razo, Apexi, C-west all make 100% functional stuff man.
I like the stock look of the car too but I am a tunner at heart and my philosophy is "friends dont let friends drive stock". It dosent mean I'd go out and rice up my car at pepboys but I like diversity. Look at Stealthmodifer's car, its absolutely awsome. and Nitro has a bad ass wing IMO and I love his Bomex front lip. its all good to customize some.

Um how bout because you're you and i'm me.
First of all, the previous owner put the wing on. He also gave me the stock wing as well. If i didn't like the aftermarket wing, i would've put the stock wing on in a hearbeat, but "I" like the aftermarket wing. And guess what ... after that accident, the wing remained INTACT :) So after repairs/paint job (dont know what color yet) and all, it should be right back on again.
Musa thx. I too believe in diversity.

I wouldn't go as far as to say its retarded to put a wing on a car. Just i wouldn't spend money to put anything aesthetic on my car. When people modify their cars to achieve uniqueness, it can go two ways: modify for looks, and/or modify for performance. I personally desire performance over looks, b/c looks doesn't make the car go any faster, quicker, handle better, or maintain its mechanical integrity and last long. I'm gonna rant here a bit, so bear with me. I HATE shows like "Pimp My Ride" because although their designs are cool and all, they don't touch the engine, chassis, suspension at all. So basically one of those 'pimped' cars could break down the next day, but at least it would look cool sitting in some guys driveway.
UUUUUAAH, glad i got that out. Back to modifying our cars. IMO, instead of spending a little bit of money here and there on aesthetics (b/c the tend to be cheaper than basic performance upgrades[bpu], except body kits), i'd rather save up and purchase performance modifications/upgrades. One of the biggest things i've learned with my 3000GT is how much time and money actually should go into REGULAR MAINTENANCE. Since any sports car is rather mechanically complex and not easy to maintain (if driven like they should be=bats out of hell!), they will require maintenance. And since money doesn't grow on trees, i consider it more valuable to learn about my car through repairs and upgrades as opposed to making it look cool and learn nothing about mechanics. Granted, design is an integral part of mechanics, functionality serves a greater purpose.
I will give the Aesthetics one provision---i love those Lambo doors, which are part functional, but mostly aesthetic.
So i'm all for making my car unique. And i like to perscribe to the Sleeper Theory. Keep the rather stock appearance on the outside, and have an incredibly unique and different performance engine and gauges and suspension and the like underneath.
Well that's just my .02 cents. Just curious, does anyone else share my views?

I just got my estimate today. Insurance sent me to their own place of course. The repair shop was actually like 4 blocks from my house. My tail lights still light up, so with some tape lol i taped them up and my dad escorted me. So i went to the place, "Car Star" it was called, and after after some inspecting, he told me my suspected estimate (Real Estimate Tomorrow).
$4,000+ with used parts.
With new parts it would have been well over $4,900, and my car would be considered a total loss in the eyes of my insurance.
My insurance follows this guideline for repairs. Used Parts first, or Aftermarket parts (none for 3000gt), and New Parts are a last resort. I had no idea they worked like this. Car Star is using used parts for the estimate.
I dont know if i can go anywhere else for an estimate, but i'm gonna find out. I don't think so though, because the insurance sent me especially to that place, so they work through them. Anyways i'm gonna take the money, and fix it somewhere else for so much cheaper. My bro also knows some peeps. So if all goes well i'm gonna have a lot of money in my pocket left over. Now the (ugh!) parts searching begins. After i find all the parts and stuff is when the fun begins! Can anyone say .... Pearl White? .......... or "maybe", i'm not sure ... but i'm "thinking" 1st gen vr4. Not sure though because i totally luv 2st gens. Thank you all for ur support!

No I don`t think so it just depends on your insurance plan or what insurance company you have. Sorry about your ride that sucks if someone ever hit my 3000 I`d proably beat the shit out of them with a 2x4.

all insurance companies use aftermarket parts (except in rare circumstances) instead of OEM because if insurance companies all used OEM parts your insurance would be way more expensive due to the extra cost for OEM vs aftermarket.

if they say they will repair it, then they will repair it. it dosent matter if its used or new as long as it gets repaired, plus the only thing that makes a difference if the final body work which will be fine. just let the insurance company fix it, they know what they are doing and will leave it like nothing ever happened. I would advice you to aboandon the hope of repainting it though unless you are willing to throw in some of your own cash.
