I have a 85 crx SI and i want to turbo it. Should i rebuild or swap out the engine? If i swap it would a 2.2 DOHC VTEC from a prelude fit, with some mods? Otherwise what should i get

It will be easier to turbo a D16A1 or a B16/18. You can rebuild your D15A3 but aftermarket performance parts are near impossible to find. An H22 from a Prelude fill fit with alot of modification and stiffer front torsion bars, but this will also leave you with drag strip only car. The H22 is so heavy that your car will handle poorly on the street, the 1g CRX just doesn't have the suspension design to handle the extra weight. A D16A1 from an '86-'89 Integra will practically drop right in but aftermarket parts are dwindling. The B-series motors will be your best choice since aftermarket parts are plentiful and you can get everything you need for the swap from Hasport. A B18 will make your car SCREAM! Check with Red Pepper Racing since several people have done a B-series swap and can give you some useful advise.

would it be cheaper to but a h22 for $500 and rebuild it and put it in my rex or to go out and but a b18 or something and go that route???

a JDM ZC would be simple to swap and its the only higher performance engine that would mount correctly into that car. for more info on a ZC go to www.thezcr.com

im a crx fan as well and have been looking heavily into this. You really want to go with a d16a1, its just so much easier to drop into the rex. I have found a rebuild kit with 8.9 comp ratio pistons and rods. For the turbo u can use a b16/d16 turbo kit since the manifold is the same... The only thing is u have to get is the ecu tuned at a shop. If u look u can find d16 cams, and AEM makes the adjustable gears. I found a place that sells titanium springs, valves, retainers for the d, h, and f series engines.Just dont drop an h22 its a bad move, and alot more money than its worth. Vtec is good but if u want simplicty this is the way to go.Here are a few links...

if u get stuck looking for parts just look up zc dohc, carefull there is a sohc vtec version. in japan its called the zc which represents several differnt engines.

Not for a D15A3 motor.
