Hi ppl,
Whenever I drive like racing after a while it smells a little bit like eggs...
When I drive normally, it doesnt do it.
I tought it could be the prestone but why?
I don't think its the cathalityc converter...
I've not mod my car except for an CAI.
Engine is B18B1 on integra LS year 2000.
I've searched the forum and nothing corresponded with my problem.
tx for any insight

maybe your clutch burning?

Probably your cat heating up. I have the same thing whenever I beat on my car, otherwise it's fine. And that's usually the smell you get from the cat when it's heated up.

I burned my clutch once, it was not the same thing and the clutch doesnt seem burned or some like that.
The answer from CivicSpoon seems a probable explanation, thank you

Egg smell is the battery. Probably overcharging it from the high RPM's. Which would mean something is wrong because when I had an B18 Integra and raced doing 130 for about 3 minutes, the only thing that happened was my header glowing red.

Ummmm...No, the egg smell is the cat burning fuel off. Try using better grade gas, that makes it go away. Its nothing to worry about though. If it starts while you are driving daily, just use higher grade gas for a fillup and it'll go away

Automan: next time I have the problem, I'll be sure to go smell the battery to see if she's is the problem..

clutch does not smell like freakin eggs. the clutch disk has the same kind of material as brakes, so it smells like brakes. Ive also never heard of batteries smelling like eggs. Ive recharged plenty of batteries (not car) and they do not smell like eggs lol. Im sorry ur car has to smell like eggs tho.

well how many of you went through school for this? lol A battery overcharging (not recharging) smells like rotten eggs. go look it up for you doubters. Using a different grade gas is only for if your compression has risen otherwise it won't do anything. Just for your info. believe me or not I won't argue with ya. And no problem didz.

Clutch = Bacon
Cat = Rotten Eggs
Battery = I have no idea, but it could very well be eggs. I don't have any experience on this first hand.

Ok a cat is used for getting rid of excess gas that doesnt get used. And whenyou get cheapo gas it smells like rotten eggs. And yes on top of going to school for this stuff, ive had the problem before, i used 93 octane, and bam it went away. So I know for a fact it isnt the battery. You might wanna go look up this info in your books again.

Alright well if you know for a fact, meaning you went and inspected the car and ruled out that the battery isn't the problem, and confirmed that the cat is the problem, then i'll take your word for it. However if you didn't do all that, then it could be either situation, battery or cat, because I know first hand battery = rotten eggs, and a few people have said cat = rotten eggs so that's probably right. But we'll have to wait for didz to tell us what it shwaz "for a fact".
Also, the cat isn't used for getting rid of excess gas, that's what an EGR system is for. The cat is for absorbing Nitrous Oxides and Carbon Monoxide from the burned gas exhaust. I think I know the books well enough. :bananasmi

So by absorbing these GASES, it gets rid of them correct?? Correct me if I am wrong, but NitrousOxide and Carbon Monoxide are gases. Also if there are other additives in the fuel, its gonna put those into the gases that are expelled from the car. So you proved my point anyway that the cat gets rid of excess gas.

I didn't realize that integras had EGR's... So if they didn't, wouldn't the extra gas (i'm talking about the stuff you pump in the car to get it to move) come out the exhaust pipes and into the cat?

Well in a very odd way of wording it I guess so, since "getting rid of excess gas" would mean leftover gases, which is what the exhaust system is for. If you had said the cat "filters out unwanted gases so they dont go into the atmosphere" then maybe you would have made more sense to me. So to clarify catalytic converter = FILTER, exhaust system = "gets rid of excess gas", we're both thinking the same thing but saying it differently right?

Are you here to be a troll? First you bring an argument over here from the Camaro forum, because you don't have the balls to write it where you knew the guy would read it. And now you're making an ass of yourself by making stupid comments about a smell? Grow up and learn something boy. A burnt clutch does have a hint of burning bacon to it for your information. Maybe you're just fortunate enough to never have burnt your clutch before, but those who have were able to relate to the way he described it. And yes brakes smell the same; like BACON. But that's alright cause I'm willing to bet you won't be here for a full year with the attitude you have.

lol im not trying to be a troll. nor did i bring any argument from the camaro forum. LT1 came over here talkin shit and i replied and 97SLVRbullet came over here too and also talked shit. I wasnt able to reply on the same exact post (who's got the biggest wang) because it was closed, so i replied on the next best thread. Balls enough? wth. I take this forum seriously, but i get slammed if i joke around one time? is this team up on gsr day? i thought it was funny anyways.

You shouldn't really talk man. Most of the posts you've made on here have been you talking shit. You've been just as out of line as he has. But I think you may have needed to be spanked less and hugged more as a child.
