what he meant was (to make it short), thousands of dollars the last time i checked. $6000 in new eng area. unless you can do it yourself.
and yes.. it is possible 400hps. however, as you go as high as 400, certain rebuild needs to be done to the tranny. it'll prob costs you $1200-$2000 for a complete rebuild still better than the swap.

My gsx is Automatic and it still very sufficent =D! In the automatic you shift into 2nd at 6500rpms and 6000 for every gear after that so it really isnt too bad.

You can build up an auto tranny for about 400, which is what I pay for ONE clutch, and I buy a few per year. It is known to be good to over 400 WHP at this level. They hold up much better than manuals, just by design (planetary gear sets, etc). You can build boost on the line without a stutterbox (footbrake). They shift faster than any standard can when built properly. Etc. There are several advantages.
I have done an auto to manual swap on a 2G NT. Well, helped with it. The owner had to do all the spending and locating the correct parts, etc. We could only work for about an hour at a time since you would always run into some part you dont have. Then work for another hour 2 weeks later, etc. This continued for months on end ;)
