ok, i am having troble with my autometer 5" tach w/shift light.
i tried everything i can think of but always get jumping shift light flashing results!
GREEN on tach - BLUE wire negitive lead off the distrib. then BLUE wire in the back of the cluster

WHITE on tach - first switched, them connected to the fuse box

RED on tach - first switched, then connected to the white ignition wire.

BLACK on tach - connected to neg. terminal on battery, then grounded in engine bay.

NOTHING WORKED!!! JUST ENDED UP GETTIN BLINDED BY THE SHIFT LIGHT EVERY 2 SECONDS!!!!!

what am i doing wrong?? the only thing i can think of is the wiring was cut when i got it, so i replaced them with the same gauge wire to reach there destination, but the wire thread off the tach is silver and the replacements are brass colored, i dont think this will make a differance will it??? please help me, anything you know that might help, please post!!

oops!
i dont think i was too clear on my question
its not just my shift light, the reading jump like crazy and right now when i start my motor it goes way past the 10,000 rpm's and stays there and the shift light just stays on even tho the car is like at 900 rpms..

then i believe u may have tapped into the wrong blue wire on ur gauge cluster harness. its the blue wire on the plug closer to the door. also. look on the back of ur tach, theres prolly a cover u can take off and it might have to be set differently. i know on my sunpro tach i have to set it to however many cylinders my car has. in the instructions it lists all the choices and how 2 do it

I know some tachs have a cylinder # setting. Like one setting for 4 cylinder, one for 6 cylinder, and 8 - check and see if hit has something like that - cause supposedly they all run of different voltages.

Wait, you disconnected your factory tach to install an aftermarket tach?

you realize you can still run both tachs right? you didnt need to cut the whole wire off, u can use trailer wiring splicers to get it to work....

what did u do with the brown and orange wires? You cut them right? You didnt have to connect the one wire in the cluster, just to the tach lead off of the distributor.

there was 2 wires in a loop (orange & brown) dont cut anything for 8 cyl. cut one of them i forgot with color for a 6 cyl. and both for a 4 cly.

i really Appreciate all the reply's guys!!

I would think somehow to incorporate a shiftlight into the cluster itself. Near the turn signals on the left side you have the highbeam indicater, and on the right side a blank space, perhaps put something in there.
