Park Ave Questions

Hey guyz(&galz),

I have a few questions about my 97' Park Ave, regular not ultra, and i hope you can help.

Firstly, the abs and trac lights are constantly on for the passed 3 weeks or so. I suspect it's the sensor, but i am not sure, is there a way to check? Suggestion on what it might be, or how to discover the problem on my own, so i don't have to pay GM for the diagnostic?

Secondly, how am i able to read error codes for my car? Where do i look, what do i use, because i'd be really interested in learning that so i can know for sure for myself what is going on with my car.

Also, the climate control display, comes on and off whenever it feels like it, and i am assuming(maybe prematurely) that it is one of the fuses or connections, where can i find the fuse box for it or anyone have any idea what it might be otherwise? A connecting wire perhaps?

And lastly, because i don't wanna seem too pushy, how can i solve the ever troublesome gage problem for the park avenues? The gave goes haywire nonstop, from full to empty. I know there is something in the trunk that gives you acces, but where exactly and what tools or how do i fix it?

Thxs a lot in advance, i hope you can pass some useful advice to me 2.
Ciao

As for finding out the error codes for the ABS & TRAC lights, you need a scan tool that can trace down the circuit that’s at fault. It could be any of the four ABS sensors on the wheel hubs/bearings, or it could be the master ABS computer, or somewhere in between. I’ve heard that Autozone will do it for free (hoping you’ll buy their products). Ultimately, it probably wouldn’t be such a bad idea to invest in your own OBD II scantool (maybe such as Autotap?). I’ve never used it, so I can’t tell you from experience; maybe someone else can share their experience on using them. But ultimately you’re going to have to get someone to scan it to narrow the problem down.

As for reading error codes for yourself, if you get the Autotap scan tool, I’m sure that would come with the information as to what the codes mean. I think you can get the GM version of Autotap software for like $250.

As for the climate control system, I don’t think it’d be a fuse, but it could be a wire coming out of a fuse box. I don’t know where that fuse would be located on your ’97, probably either under the dash above the brake pedal, or inside the dash right above the foot area on the passenger side. Those problems that you’re having are often hard to pinpoint, especially when they’re intermittent. My best strategy has been taking a voltmeter and figuring out which wire carries the power, and then tracing that wire back, and figuring out exactly where the open circuit is occurring. Hopefully someone can give you direction who’s had this problem before.

As for the gage, is it just the fuel gage you’re talking about? Be sure to be specific.

I've been reading about your dilemma with you car and error codes. I'd like to suggest going to an AUTO ZONE (if you have one in your area) they will do a computer check FREE, and tell you what's going on. I think that's a great service.
Sounds like my "Ghost car" 98 Park Ave
