I've been driving a 91 camaro rs with a 305 v8 and a 5 speed manual for about 5 months now. It's my first stick, I had a new clutch kit put in it about 5000 miles ago. I've just now got the hang of it, but i think ive pretty much killed the clutch. Its not slipping yet but it only grips about a 1/2 inch from the top. When I had the new clutch put in it gripped about a 1/2 inch from the floor. ive also recently replaced the clutch master cylinder, but not the slave. My mechanic said that the slave was fine and if it was bad i would be dumping fluid and i wasnt. The clutch pedal seems kinda mushy compared to how it was when the new clutch was put in. the tranny mount was also replaced about a week ago, Could i have worn out a clutch in 5000 miles or is it just broke in, or is there possibly something else wrong?
Thanks,
Jess

If you don't know what your doin you can burn up a clutch in a few minutes.

I burnt up a clutch in 2 months when I first got my license *I blame my lack of talent with hills, and teaching my mom to drive stick with my baby lol*. Then I ruined another one when I managed to blow the throw out bearing through the clutch and the bellhousing shifting into 3rd gear.
Like Biggy said, you can burn up a clutch quick if you dont know what you're doing.

i learnt to drive a manual in my 90 rs, 305 5 speed.
i bought it with a new clutch already in it from the dealership, anyway its still going 2 years later. i was told that the reason that it lasted so long was that the newer fluid type clutches are harder to burn up.
