Hydrolocked h23

hey everyone. I hydrolocked my h23 and i tried replacing the plugs but ugh that didnt work. I have a INKEN C/A/I and so as you know it basically sits on the ground. So, im curious to what kind of damage i could have done. The motor was strong with 60,000 original miles on it and i had it for about 15, 000 miles and I babied it except on track days, but even then it only ran hard for 14.8 sec. . i always used 4 Royal Purple and 1 Lucas oil stabilizer with my oil chance( fram x2 filter) so i took care of her. now i want to save this motor, so how can i go about finding out what exactly happened? also if it could be multiple things could i please know apprx how much for each part? thanks. i just want to save it without spending a arm and a leg b/c since my job mainly works when its nice out im not making alot of money right now. any help would be nice.. thanks all

Ouch, sorry to hear that. That's one of the reasons I try to never drive in the rain.

Water doesn't compress, so as your piston came up to try and compress the A/F mixture it couldn't. You could have did quite a bit of damage like throwing a rod, cracking your pistons, and your sleeves might not be so straight anymore.

My advice, save up for a H22.

yah ur fucked, unless you want to rebuild it but you could buy and h22 for a little more and be faster.

yea but if i rebuild the h23 for less then the 22 and get a turbo id be fast b/c the 23 block is capable of more boost

so wait, you obviously know about engines (at least the honda ones), but you had no clue what hydrolocking actually was? yea, you could have damaged it from very little, to a lot. what i wanna know is, how'd you do it?? from what i understand, you have to completely submerge the filter for it to suck up enough water to hydrolock. did you drive into a deep puddle while revving high?

future advice: if you have to drive through a submerged area, either have the bypass valve from AEM, OR, take it slow and while idling, shit, turn off the engine and push the car if you have to.

it would probably cost 400-600 to have it rebuilt and 3000 for a good turbo kit. You should get a new h22 and save a little longer for a turbo if you set it up right h22 kicks h23's butt.

But i might add that you could have a cheap fix like a bent connecting rod. If your willing to do the work it could be cheap check it out.

i knew what hydrolocked was but i wasnt sure what diffrent things could be wrong from it. i knew pistions and valves but wanted someone who had more knowledge to help me

where in WA.? I lived there for 4 yrs and just left a few months ago. I was at ft lewis and @ Muketieo with my girlfriend. well its just nice to see a wa person around. Im in philly and the races are fun but PA SUX. i do miss the rain, i hate to say it. also i never had issues in wa with my injen untill i came to pa. isnt that funny? lol. well get back to me. i wanted to joing a lude c lub there but never could find one so eh just get back to me when you got time. my aim screen name is gr8rxpectationz

i guess it happens here more than often.....by the way im from lynnwood....but ya i didn't even see the street was flooded. i should of gotten the bypass valve...but oh well another motor and a turbo kit will do.

i did the same thing but i went to a car part store and got some gas treatment that has a water evaporator type thing in it, you can find them at any auto store, just read the fine writing on the back of the bottle, i also had to replace the spark plugs, you can also leave the plugs out for a little while so the water can escape from inside the motor. it is a honda it will run forever, my friend also did the same thing to his civic, but he got drunk and drove it into a lake, the water was over the top of the hood. he did the same thing as me and it has never ran better. so try it out.

If i were you i would also go for the h22. If you have no $ and you know what your doing start tearing it down to see how bad it is. It might be a cheap fix if you do the labor yourself. Did you try pulling out the plugs and craking the motor?

By the way does the aem bypass valve even work for sure. Cause if it does than everyone should have one it's cheap insurance.
