Security & Anti theft

I've spent a lot of time searching for security & anti theft products. In particular, I've been looking for Hood Locks and Gear / Shifter Locks. I've only found these two links.

I have a Club Like device for the Brake, and the Club for the steering wheel. Plus A Viper Car Alarm. I figure that should be enough for most thieves to not bother with the car. Also thinking of putting a hidden key switch on the fuel pump, so even if they can get it started, there's no fuel to power it.

I've also been researching car alarms, but I've found only two different manufacturers, Directed Electronics ( they make Viper, Clifford, Hornet, Python...) and AudioVox (they make CodeAlarm). I remember Alpine used to make alarms, but I guess they got out of that market.

What features do you like about the Viper?

Get those funky hood pins used on racing cars. Instead of using the huge cotter pins, use small locks with keys. That way they'll have to work harder to get inside the hood.

Also, get a real good alarm installed by a professional shop. DEI is the best around. You can have them install special sensors in areas around your car like mercury tilt switchs, motion detector, digital tilt sensors, and backup batteries for both the alarm and siren. DEI also makes a hood lock that works pretty well. Also, DEI has come out with these SSKR relays. They are small relays the same size as the ones in most cars. The difference is that they have a small reciever inside that works with the remotes from the alarm. You replace the OEM relay like your fuel pump or starter relay with one of these. They'd have no idea what's going on. They work great at my shop. People love them.

Thanks, I plan on completely removing the manual hood release cable and replacing it with the trunk-opener that comes with the alarm. I'll definitely add the DEI hood locks.

In another forum, I read a story about a guy who attached razor blades onto the Radio Head Unit. It sounds vicious but seems very effective.
I figure it should be very easy to Crazy-Glue the back-end of some thumb tacks to the Head Unit.

people often think that lojack is obsolete, but the fact is that it is more useful now than ever. Although it is not a theft deterrent, it has an amazing record of getting your car back. new models have an enhanced transmitter and most police helicopters are equipped with lojack tracers and some squad cars too. I don't know the economics of the system, but i do know that it is underrated.

If its a 6 banger, throw on sum Masterlocks, but if its a V8, get SMALL pins w/ locks for the hood, as for the car itself, any alarms will work, the locks for steering wheels Gear shidters ect. are a waste of $, Robbers can take those off now, no key or code needed, so just get a good alarm, I have a Viper, & I like that it is LOUD, or atleast mine is, plus I forget the model, put mine shows whats happen to the car, What part was " bumped " what was opened (door/trunk/hood) plus it tells me when it turns off ( stops makeing noise & dis-arms itself) & then I can re-arm it ( from about 1500 Ft. away ) so if they do it again, it goes off again

Hey BigDanTheMan, nice to see you're back.

Crime in Los Angeles is ridiculously high. However, Fords aren't burglarized as frequently as "H" cars. It's real odd how a criminal cult following has developed for those cars.
I ordered it in white and expect delivery in early December. I haven't seen any on the road yet.

I want to install the alarm myself because if you want something done right .....
Was a basic wiring schematic included in the box?

Although that seems like a great idea(one that I have done myself), it usually leads to the theif getting pissed and kniving the whole dash or other parts of the car.

i might not even bother with an alarm. the car cant be stolen cuz it should have a PATS system from factory (there is a chip in your key, if on start up the computer doesnt sense it by the tumbler.. no starty starty) most thieves do smash and grabs, best thing you can do... keep all valuables outta sight. i used to work at car security shop, i have seen my fair share of break ins...
