All good questions Cammren,
I would say Catback Exhaust, Cold Air Intake and Gears are all good bang for the buck first mods but a programmer or Module won't hurt either.

Mostly aiming for horsepower...sounding good is always a good thing, but I want a deep rumble not the tin can sounding shit...and I don't need the car to look tight...I do that alone...LOL!

Horse Power! A good start would be a 5.7L or decent V8. Mods turbo's and alot of the other stuff guys are doing to their cars cost anywhere from 500-5000 per mod depending on how serious they get. You could get a brand new v8 for around 1500 bucks if you shop around. If your a serious enthusiast you can get a 450 horse power crate engine for about 3500.
But dont forget if you put in a V8 you may need stiffer front end springs to compinsate for weight difference.

Screamin I think she was talking about dropping a couple of tenths for a couple of hundred's but I like the way you think.

Ignition, ignition, ignition...
I've always found Horsepower gains come quicker when you start with the basics. Get rid of those stock crappy spark plugs and have a nice set of AC Delco's Plats dropped in or Bosch Plat 4's if you prefer (grumble). I'm not sure what type of distributor system the 4th gens use, so if its an option, get a cap and rotor with brass contacts and some high quality plug wires (MSD Superconductors work nicely). Once you get these done, you'll see an even BIGGER gain from that mean new exhaust and CAI... :evillol:

if its a series 2 3.8 its got coil packs and they are very potent to begin with. as far as i know they dont make a programmer for that engine.

check out
www.madz28.com
www.pcmforless.com
for a reprogram that would be great for your first mod.

definatly get a cold air intake or ram air

http://www.suncoastcreations.com/Products.cfm?cat=4

throttle body coolant bypass mod is great and free

catback exhaust is cheap and fun cause you change the sound of the car
check out www.slponline.com and get an ss exhaust system
http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=25&t=000257
some sound bites of the 3.8 with those exhaust

so far everyone who has the pacesetter headers for the 3.8 loves them. i havent heard any complaints

http://rsmracing.com/us/main.htm
race cam
bigger rollerrockers
supercharger
big throttle body

if your car is auto checkout transgo for a good shift kit

get some good tires and then check out anyone for suspension mods

with all that stuff your car will be well into the 300hp to the wheels mark maybe even higher if you do it right. if you want more then get some nitrous or runmore boost.

They do have programmer's for the 3.8 OBD 2 systems and both www.madz28.com and www.pcmforless.com don't currently have 3.8 programming software but Bryan from pcmforless told both me and 97camarors he should have some software over this winter but madz28.com isn't planning on getting it.

i stand corrected

i figured when it said custom applications at the bottom of the page then it could have meant a 6cyl

who makes a programmer for the 3.8?

Hypertech makes them for after 99 and there is some company that makes them for the 97 + they have a weird shape rounded at the top. I will find a link to them but can't remember the name right now.

for the 3.4.. this is where i come in.. i have a 93 Camaro with a 3.4, easiest stuff is the basic stuff.. definately get some headers, i'd go with Hedman, they have a nice ceramic coated header, go with a highflow cat or have it removed, i cut mine off and it runs great, and sounds so mean.. magnaflow cat-back.. best system for the 3.4, k&N, TransGo shift kit will firm up the tranny like a champ, and i'd get an underdrive pulley for the surpentine belt, it'll help the stress on the belt and few up a few extra horses.. and dont forget to upgrade the rear.. definately a good idea, thats where im goin next..
