Defroster not working

93 Yukon, The blend control does not divert the air to the defrost grill on the dash board. The dealer has opened the dash 2 times to reconect the linkage to air diverter for the sum of $250(girl friends car). They said the motor is pushing too hard and being disconected.
Has anyone had this problem. Does anyone know how to get at this motor?

How Ironic that I had the same problem last week. It's a simple process
to re-connect the linkage that falls off the air diverter, and it doesn't
involve opening up the dash to do it. Locate the ash tray and just behind
it under the dash you can see the motor, which looks like a home circuit
breaker (black and rectangular). Attached to it are two linkages. One linkage goes to the lower air diverter near the floor. This lower one was
still connected on mine and was working just fine. The other linkage attaches to the top air diverter shaft (a horizontal rod that controls the air diverter for the windshield defrost grill) which controls how much air is sent to the defrost grill. My top linkage simply fell off the horizontal rod for the defroster air divertor. The motor moves very slowly, so the dealer was just trying to get you to buy a new motor needlessly. You
may have to unbolt the cross brace that holds the Radio assembly under the dash to be able to get you hand up there to reconnect the top linkage to the rod. All you do is orient the linkage correctly and push it on the shaft. Be sure end of the linkage is pushed on the shaft completely. It fits kind of like a glove. I think this linkage can fall off due to extreme vibration and possible wear. I just reconnected mine on 11/06/04 and have tested it 20 or 30 times and it hasn't fallen off yet.
So, I am going to keep and eye on it and if it does happen to fall off again, I'll probably try to use some kind of adhesive (or glue) to keep it permanently attached. GOOD LUCK !!! Send me an email if you have any more questions about this or anything else about your 93 Yukon. I've

I had same problem (front defroster not work) with my Suburban 1994 but I only put the grease on the joint between the (TOP) linkage AND the top air diverter shaft (a horizontal rod that controls the air diverter for the windshield defrost grill) which controls how much air is sent to the defrost grill and every thing is OK.
P.S. to do it I just take the ashtray out
