Hi just got my 350z a few days ago.
I am trying to install my double DIN headunit from my past car. I went to good guys for an installation kit and they told me it doesnt exist for 350z's. I was told it must be custom made and then stock amps must be by passed in order for it to work properly. Has anyone else experienced this problem? or are they trying to rip me off?
I am used to installing head units on my own and this is the first time it seems I won't be able to.
i would really appreciate any help.
Also, I have a cobra radar detector but the power outlet on the Z is all the way in the back. I was thinking of buying a long cord and try to run it through the defogger AC ducts in front of the dash and under the seats. any suggestions? I'm new to the Z so please help if you can.
thanks

I installed a kenwood tv/dvd player in my Z and we had to direct wire it but there shouldn't be a problem installing it. It isn't anything you can't do if you have installed car stereos before just take your time.

you could always wire one in, but it would be a hassle. you could also run the extension under the center console plastic and have it exit where you want it.
what year is your Z. I know i have the plug too. it's a little lower down from the cup holder on the passenger side, under a door.

I lack the plug, but as for your radar, try hardwiring that bad boy and routing the wire through the "A" pillar across the headliner, and drop down right above your mirror. Several members have done this and I think its the cleanest install.

i ordered the metra kit for my z off ebay. it includes pieces for a double wide din. i dont know if its ideal though, the majority of the kit is made for single. but in the instructions it has directions for popping off the divider between the two bays.
