Not enough Volts/Amps????

Well I just got my Alpine deck installed today in my 68 Nova and when the guy was done installing it he said that their wasnt enough power getting to the deck, so he ran a wire from the battery to the deck to give it enough juice, which worked fine( charged me more, those damn....), but I was driving it and when I turn on my turn signals the deck turns off. As soon as I turn my turn singals off the deck turns back on. I do have a tachometer and a 3 Gauge Cluster in my car, which I know eats up volts. I do have a volt meter and i was wondering why the turn singals take up so many volts? Plus what can I do to fix this problem? New Altenator or Capacitor for my Deck or 2nd Battery?
-thanks for any advice
-Peace

haha, that's an odd problem

Lack of voltage/current is NOT your issue, the problem is they wired it badly. I'm not sure what they did, but it sounds like they used a bad switched 12V wire, one that was integrated with the turn signals strangely. Do you have a multimeter? If so you can find yourself a different switched 12V wire, one that doesn't turn on and off with the turn signal, and use that instead.

there are 3 power wires on your deck. black, red, and yellow, the yellow is the constant 12V+, from which the head unit gets most of its power. The black is ground, and the red is the switched wire that is a lot like an amp remote wire, if that makes any sense. I would run the yellow straight to the battery, and only switch the red wire through the ignition switch. Also make sure the black has a good solid ground. Just a thought, but is the battery in you '68 nova a 12V or a 6V?

FYI, a load doesnt take up voltage. voltage is the puch on electrons. it uses amperes. ov corse when the battery is being overloaded (too many amperes being pulled) the voltage drops die to the physics/nature of a cell battery.
but like SR20 said they are retarded (did you get it installed at circut city? or best buy? if so, thats you whole problem there) it is probably a horubly wired power lead and they probably tapped into a switch that goes off when the turn signal is turned on (though i would think that it would be doing the opposite of what they described)

Everything is ok now, CHECK THIS OUT< the fucking guy at GoodGuys hooked into my Turn Signal Wire for voltage and didnt realize. I called him on it and he said "ok I fix it!" What a dumbfuck, whatever! It works now. Thanks for the advice though. That actually gave me some ideas for other things!
