We need some more competition!

From one car enthusiast to all others. As my fellow Marine and I were sitting down enjoying our chow while currently deployed in Iraq. We engaged in a debate discussing which car manufacturer leads the pack in overall street and strip performance. After it was all said and done, we came to the conclusion that todays car manufacturers rely too heavily on after market companies and are not battling it out company to company, engine to engine, and driver to driver. What we are getting at is when is the last time that we have seen a Dodge Stratus with a V8 powerplant, or a Ford Taurus with 700+horse power at your local dealership. In short, we just want to see some true car manufacturer competition going head to head, battling it out for the ultimate bragging rights.

We came up with something along these lines. Each car manufacturer will be given a $10,000 budget to build an existing production car that will represent that manufacturer. We believe that this style of racing will benefit the average every day person. The car companies will produce an affordable well performing car that can be purchased by you and me. Being in the military, we can't afford the overpriced performance vehicles that are on the market today. For example the Ford GT, a great race car, but not feasible to your average blue collar worker. Now mind you, the point of this post is not to get some more affordable cars. We just want to see better racing. The affordable cars would just be a bonus from it.

Give us some feed back on this idea. We are going to send this idea to the car companies, magazines, and every forum that we can as should you.

Repost...you posted this in the Automotive News desk too.

Anyhow...I think it's a decent idea. But what's wrong with just using the aftermarket???

hey andy,
well, i have nothing against the aftermarket products. they're great, and the racing is very entertaining. I mean my favorite racing is the LeMans series. The thing i'd like to see is some car on car racing though. Like how they had the Iroc races in the 80's. A few regular Camaros, with the best driver's around, competing with the same cars, same engine, so therefore, it's all on the driver. not which car is made faster. In my idea, there would be a Corvette, with a few mods, nothing too deep, and it's rival, the Viper, also close to stock, going at it. You see what i'm saying. Then, as a bonus, car companies would be forced to make some new cheaper sports cars to compete in this event, if it were to become big. Just something to push for.

I see what you're saying. I'm too young to know about these Iroc races. I've grown up watching Rally Racing and the LeMans series at Road America in WI.

Well, You May Have Been Too Young To Have Watched The Iroc Races, But So Am I. I'm Only 19 Years Of Age, But I'd Like To See Something Like It Come About Again. I'm Just Tired Of Watching Half A Million Dollar Cars Race Against Each Other. I Mean It's Good, But That's How Every Class Of Racing Is. It's Time For Something New.
