So, let me ax you this: Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the valve cover gaskets? I believe I had read on here previously that the oil smell coming from the vents when it's cold out is from a leak in the valve cover gaskets. I believe I also read that this was covered by the warranty. Well, I think my warranty ended in Sept ('01 is my model year), and now that it's begun to get cold out, I'm smelling oil when I have the vents on again. It's not real pleasant and I don't think I want to go through winter breathing this. Anyway, I took my car in to have a few things looked at a couple months ago, and mentioned this problem and how I had read it was a leaking valve cover gasket. Well, the dumbasses at the dealership said they couldn't find a leak and wouldn't replace them, even though it would have been under warranty at the time. Now that I'm having the problem again, I don't want to take it back to the same dumbass shop and have to pay for it this time (if I could convince them that there is a problem. I hate mechanics). So, would this be something I could do at home if I had some tools? Thanks for any info.

I've never done it, but I've heard it's not too bad...for a modern car. A couple hours per side.

Definitely do-able.

check your plugs, if they have oil then take it back and ax for the repair under the after warranty adjustment. FLM usually allows for up to 2 AFA repairs and considering how close you are to your warranty expiration you may be able to get them to do it.

Thanks for the help, I'll definitely have to look into the options and check the plugs. It just sounds like what most people had described in the post from awhile back - oil smell from the vents, happens when it's cold out, etc.
