Good...now that I have your attention....
There is a 'SCANDAL' developing in N.Z. concerning the use of courts department computers by high court judges.Apparently, one of our senior judges is being pressured to resign because he used his work computer for 90 minutes over several days to view:eek: porn!
The case is rapidly turning into a witch hunt, with three district court judges also being outed as porn-watchers.
My question then is fairly obvious....are judges expected to have higher standards than the rest of us or should they be allowed the same fallibilities as the people that they try?
come to that, what limits do you think any of us should face as we surf the web at work?Does your workplace have internet policies?Have you ever known anybody to be punished for inappropriate net use?
no,I have'nt so there!

I must say when I first heard it on the news my first thought was that he could have legitimately been looking at these sites as part of a case. Surely if you have a case coming up that involves say child pornography you would want to research it thoroughly and see just what sites the people involved have been looking at.
The other thing is that I think it should have been handled internally rather than aired in public. Isn’t that the way it is in any other company??
As far as I know we don’t have any internet policies at work, but I would never log onto any porn sites here or at home because they just don’t interest me.

I didnt know porn was evil. But looking at it at work should be a no no. I would charge him or the use, and then some type of punishment. But losing your job over it is kind of extreme in my opinion.

This is all about censorship and peoples degree of morale. Some people would say looking at it is totally wrong in any regard, therefore, it should never be looked at anywhere. Some people argue that its something private and should be only looked at in private. And then, theres some that just dont care and would like to look at it in any situation no matter what the reprecussions.
Looking at the subject at work would seem sort of weird, however, it should be something you choose to do in the privacy of your own home, not a public institution.

Maybe he was using it for a court case coming up. So easy to get caught out though. If he's been looking at child ones:mad: , then he better have a fucken got answer. How many times have we gone looking for a site and a sex one pop's up that you didn't want?
I dont really care if he did or not......he's only doing what 99% of us do anyway !!
Just because he's a judge should not make him any different from the rest of us.
I've looked at porn site's.......they going to drag me though the news too??

He wasn't looking at any really dodgy stuff (like kids or animals... or whatever). They said it was what you could access in a motel room - so it's probably soft-core Playboy-type stuff. Nothing heinous so far. The only way I can see it impacting on his professional ability is the monumental stupidity it implies. He's a judge, and he's looking at porn on his work computer!!?!?!??!!?!?!? Idiot! The other really stupid thing is that it's being aired in public. Everybody's worried this may adversely affect the judiciary's credibility with the public ... well it bloody wouldn't if they hadn't freakin' told everybody about it. The idiots!!! Some things are better kept behind closed doors - no-one was hurt by it, after all.

they lose their job because its apparently costing companies millions to stay online and looking up porn wastes the time and money they have

I think it's silly that he is was pressured to resign and they are doing the same to other judges. Now he is defenatly in the wrong, he was at work, you work at work, you entertain yourself at home or when not at work. But I think simply being taken aside and told "We know what you've been doing over your lunch break, its no good, it needs to stop" would have sufficed!

A guy in my office was fired for having pictures of chicks on his computer. The thing is, he didn't have internet access; it's restricted. I'm one of few who has it. Even my boss doesn't have it. Anyway, that means he brought it from home or got it all through e-mails. Fired! :p

If there is a company policy explaining this subject, and what can happen if you are guilty. Then that is a different story. For instance, here at work. If you are caught. The result is immediate termination, without benefits. So its not something to play around with here.

whoa... i didn't know it was that serious
doesn't seem like that big a deal, since it's just a video
i understand how a boss could be mad since you're not doing work, but i don't think it should be treated any differently than something else that takes time away from work

Well I can see how it would be a "no no" to look at porn at work. Its not exactialy befitting a judge to be oggeling women (can't beleave I just said that :D :silly:) at work. But I think a slap on the wrist would have sufficed!
