Hey!!
I am reasonably new to all of this and am going to get rid of my Expedition and replace it with an Audi probbly. My concern was that I wasnted to run Nitrous in my new car, and I read that you can't run nitrous through a turbocharged system. Is this true? What are my options? Are there better cars out there to purchase if I am planning on making modifications and racing Autocross/SCCA, and "everywhere in between" :D ?? If you could just drop me a quick response I would really appriciate it.
Thanks,
Chad

Haven't you seen fast and the furious? they've got nitrious on all their cars with turbo. :D
yes you can do it.... but i don't have the technical know how to answer your question specifically, specially on an audi.
are you going to run NOS during autoX?
anyone else?

on the top of my head i dont see why you couldnt run nitrous oxide on a turbo charged vehichle, just remember your engine wasnt built to withstand turbo and nitrous, you may want to look into beefing your engine up before you start spraying away.

Yeah sure you could spray a car that's already turbocharged.
Just like many people use alky injection to cool the intake charge and prevent detonation. But with the added plus of nitrous' power enhancing abilities.
If I were you, looking for a good Autocross Audi, try to get yoru hands on an S4. Bi-Turbo cars, and with only minor engine modifications, they are capable of putting out an easy 400-450 hp. Not to mention, they're AWD, and Audi's "Quattro" system is the best in the world. (thats perhaps one reason I am an Audi Tech "apprentice") :)

audis are great autocross cars, and great all around cars, at least the awd ones are!
nitrous is great for a turbocharged engine, as it will help to spool the turbos more quickly and it will work as a sort of secondary intercooler cuz its so damn cold! however nitrous isnt a good thing for autocross, as most of the courses are too tight to really use it, plus the instant surge of power can upset the car in the corners. nitrous isnt really good for cornering at all, its just to give u an extra push on the straightaways. if youre only concerned with autocross, get a new, quality set of shocks and springs instead, thatll give u a lot more increase on youre lap times than nitrous. if u want something to help your straight line as well as autocross, try a boost controller so u can work those stock turbos a little harder. nitrous really isnt gonna help u on the autocross, and if im not mistaken i think its illegal to carry nitrous on an scca autocross course anyway.

autocross isn't really on speed.... i've seen crx's beat the hell out of AWD cars... it's all about handling around the corners.

If I rember correctly with turbo charged cars you usually need a direct injection nitrous system. One that skips the turbo charger. It is possible to run the nitrous through the turbo charger but there is some delay and its not as effective.

I still do not see why Nitrous on a turbo is a good idea....why not just turn up the boost?? Get a boost controller and try to upend your power that way. Nitrous is used to get out of a tough situation on a straight away. remember how it originated? in WWII they came up with "nitrous" (of course not the same thing, but worked in the exact same manner and was used the same way) to take off from runways faster. I say, if your going Audi, which is a great choice, get an A8. arnt those the top of the line AWD Audi's? im probably wrong, someone help me out...

Audi's are great platforms but i'm not sure about the A8 which is a full size 4-door sedan which cost 60K... i'd prefer getting the smaller more nible version. yeah, just up the boost and don't use nitrous.

the nitrous creates more exhaust gasses which spool the turbo more quickly... and have u ever had nitrous sprayed directly on u? sh!t is cold! this dude was checkin his bottle cuz his wasnt spraying and he undid the nozzle while standing right in front of me and left crystals all over my pants! glad i wasnt wearing shorts! but the advantage of it being so cold is the same advantage u get from adding an intercooler. a lot of the big time turbo drag cars that run nitrous only run a small shot only for the cooling effects of it, not to add power.
btw just cuz im explaining the benefits of nitrous on turbo doesnt mean im recommending it. im with u, just crank up the boost youll see a lot better all around benefits, ESPECIALLY on the autocross course. actually wasnt it i in the 1st place who said to up boost instead of nitrous???:D
however on the buildup of my car, i am planning to eventually use a small 55 shot on top of 10-12 psi of boost...

A nitrous sys will go perfect with a turbocharger. It eliminates turbo lag and it also works as another intercooler-the expanding gases (law of physiscs) have an endotermic effect-so colder air= more air density=more power. So intercooling+no lag=you now what.
But be careful not to blow your engine up. I would recomend some reinforcing. Also probably a 60 shot of nitrous should be enough even though they recomend for V6's 70-100. smaller shot=less engine damage and the efect on a turbocharged engine is greater than an a normal one so the effect should be more than enough even with a smaller shot.

Your all right, it does spool better, especially if its a larger turbo, such as 12 psi or higher. it also cools it down, but i mean, the advantage of a turbo over other conventional Forced Induction is the idea that you have an adjustable power output. Therefore, turning up the boost would be the easiest way to enhance your performance. I guess if you were truely serious about this whole shabang and you raced it every week at some track, then yes, it would probably be beneficial. And that was the question in the first place, so totally ignore what i just typed...

All the info you need to consider has been said here, i have nothing further to recommend, just a thought.Audi's can be expensive to upgrade.if you're looking for AWD and a turbo, look at the Subaru
Impreza WRX.........it's a fabulous build-up car, comes with the turbo and is already great....the modification budget required to do what you want to it is much more inexpensive then with the Audi.
Just a thought, and good luck with your purchase!
