The right tail/break light on my '96 Jetta GL has gone out repeatedly after being changed.

I put in a new bulb, it works, then it stops working. Each time I go to see what the problem is, the bulb is cracked or broken. I put in a new bulb, it works briefly, then the same problem.

Moisture is getting inside the unit. Can this moisture be causing the bulbs to break or crack?

YES. Definitely. The bulb turns a diff color, huh? The moisture in the light is the reason. I had the same prob. Just take a really small drill bit, and drill some holes at the bottom of the light so the water will drain.
