A friend of mine has 2 '89 legends he needs to get rid of and i think im gunna pick them up.... One has a good engine and a bad transmission and the other has a bad engine and a good tranny.... i was just wondering what all would be involved in a transmission swap and how difficult it would be..... Im probably gonne be parting out the second legend so if theres any rare parts anyone needs or anything theill probably be available soon :P

Its not hard if you have the right tools. I would recomend air tools if you have them. It will cut your time in half. Label everything if you arent sure if you will remember where it goes.

The stealership is always more expensive...try a reputable shop around town that has a written guarantee of work

The swap is rather easy if you have some basic background, decent tools, and you make certain that you label EVERYTHING ( I took digital pics of all the wiring that was not idiot proof. In my experience it is just as easy to pull the transaxle and the engine as a single unit. do that with both cars, and put the best of both in your chosen chasis. get everything out of the way, and make sure and remove the hood with help (doing it alone is not worth the back ache). Good luck. I would not even think of having a mechanic do this job- it is cost prohibitive. Invest in the repair manual, it is a good refrence.
