Rear end knock during takeoff

Every so often I get this rear end knock or two when I first take off.

Does anyone know what would cause this to happen? :confused:

It could be almost anything, Damaged ring gear,pinion gear,axle,carrier(could even not be rear and be your driveshaft) but if I was a betting man I would say that you have a gasket leak and fluid is far too low or that you haven't changed the fluid in a couple of years and the viscosity has gone to sh*T. With what you said about fluid change it has been a while and I will have that checked. Should have thought of it, but glad you did.

U-joint?

Yeah, could be u-joints but when I mentioned driveshaft I was kinda including or at least try to include all driveshaft part's because a driveshaft unless hit or trying to manage a severe amount of torque will not break. Also its probably not the u-joints because they said it was random where as a u-joint will cause a clunk when put into gear and when you start out under all kinds of throttle response.

i say its the tranny mount.

That is another possible cause. I was thinking of adding that after I posted. Its a very commen problem with 3rd and 4th Gens.

hmmm. well i had this same issue and rebiult the rear end, and tranny. its a trac bar bushing, actually i put in a aftermarket trac bar it had new bushings in it. it fixed it, an older sports car with good torque and alot of miles, the bushings dry rot and usually fall out like mine did, i have seen 3 other 3rd gen camaro and firebirds do this same thing and it has been the trac bar bushings.

Good to know, I've never had that problem with my 4th Gen and I never owned a 3rd Gen but sounds like it could be whats going on. Hopefully we will find out what actually caused it and how he made it go away soon.

I had this same problem with my 96 T/A
The cause was broken transmission mounts, when I would take off, the transmission would bang into the housing, you might have the same thing.

To all those that said Tranny mount you were correct.
Took about 20 minutes to fix and all is well.
