So I have posted on the Toyota Forums for some help and I will here as well.
Can anyone think of a what to convert an Escort from the late 80's to early 90's to rwd? I have been thinking about how great the AE86 was for drifting and started to think how the body of the old Escorts resembled it so well. Then there is the fact that you pick them up just about anywhere for $500. Not running or running well of course but that wasn't a concern.
I was looking at a mid 80's toyota engine that was used as an upgrade to the Corolla and thinking about going that route. I know that there is a way to take the DSM 4g63 and turn it 90 degrees and convert it to rwd so I figured that there could be a way here as well.
Besides all else there is a WRC version of the Escort so I know you can work with it... I just don't have a clue what engine set up they use for that, but I am aware that the only company that makes parts for it resides in the UK and the shipping would kill me for parts.
Anyway I thought this was a niffty idea and would be pretty cool to spread if I could pull it off. Any suggestions would be helpful Sirs.

the wrc escort is nothing like the american escort, they are 2 different cars all together, you MAY find a awd-rwd mazda that will swap
the euro escort is awd, turbo i4 and a completly different body
