ABS coming on at standstill. Please help.

I don't think anyone has asked about this. If so, my apologies...

I have a 96 P10 with 100K miles. My ABS is coming on at complete standstills, like when I'm at a red light. It will also come on at about 2-3 mph as I'm approaching a stop.

Clear pulsating in the pedal. Sounds like RRRRRRRrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr.

I've tried turing the car off to reset the system, but when I turn the car back on the ABS continues to come on, even when the pedal is merely tapped.

Has anyone else ever had/heard of this problem?

My mechanic checked out the ABS (for free) and said that there were no fault codes stored.

I'm going back to him to ask him to check out the wheel sensors and the relays, but that sounds like it will cost a lot, so I'm hoping to narrow things down a bit.

Any specific help would be great.

Thanks!

Hello Fatboy,

The most common fault with ABS activation at low speed is the rotor disc. You can check the rotor by jacking up the wheel and looking at the drive shaft joint closest to the brake disc. You will see a rotor with lots of cut outs in it. Check each rotor by rotating the wheel, look very carefully, you may find one has a crack in it.
if you find a crack you will need to replace the outer cv joint.
