i have a 02 v6 mustang and sometimes i have a little play with the clutch petal, as in like it is loose and you can move it front to back like 1/2 to a full inch. What could this be. do i need a new clutch or what??

You may want to follow the factory instructions for lubricating the clutch cable. But I don't think you need a new clutch.

I have a 2001 Mustang and am experiencing the same problem. I was told by a mechanic to replace my clutch quadrant. I replaced that and installed a firewall adjuster. Let's just say nothing was solved. Not only do I have play in the clutch but I almost have to let it up all the way for it to start moving the car. I just had a new clutch put in about nine months ago. Is this the same with yours?? Any suggestions??

Now try adjusting your fire wall adjuster.

i am sorry for your wasted effort, but there is a ratcheting mechanism used to calibrate clutch cables to the clutch itself. this apparently has adjusted itself too far for some reason...simply resetting the ratcheting system and forcing the clutch to readjust itself should solve the problem...however i would suspect another problem elsewhere...possibly leading up to a worn clutch disc...i don't care if it's 2 days old it can be worn out
