Fabric softener

What exactly is the purpose of fabric softener? I know some smartass is going to say "to soften fabric", but seriously, does it really do anything? I don't use it when i do the laundry, but my wife does, and i don't notice any difference in the softness of the clothes. The only difference i can discern is the clothes smell a little better, but last time i checked, it was called fabric softener, not fabric smell enhancer. Am i just using the wrong brand? Someone help me out here.
By the way, someone emailed me this pic, and i got a chuckle out of it. Maybe one of the other sickos on here will too.

I'm pretty sure it removes the remaining soap in the clothing after the first rinse. All i know is that it works.

I do believe it also tries to remove as much static electricity from your cothes. My rsultes: without softener = staticy; with softener = not as staticy.

We'll see who's a loser when I'm filling the time it normally takes to add both Wasing powder AND Fabric softener to the washing machine to do the things I like.
Like turning on the Playstation and grabbing the controller or getting a beer and taking one sip :p

Just be happy that he's isolated on an island with all the other crazy brits. So except for those tunnels they built, the mainland is safe.
And what is up with everyone here and their panzy fabric softeners. I perefer to use fabric strenghtener. Remember if your close don't feel like sandpaper, they are not cool. :sunglasse

That's true, us young people are far less efficient with our time than you oldies. We need more sleep and, more importantly, we last a lot, lot longer :boink:
... and that's if you're still getting any :biggrin2:
