I have a 98 Tacoma 4cyl 2.4L auto tran.
It wouldnt start last week, well most times it wouldn't. Sometimes it would. Everytime I tried starting I get clickclickclickclickclick. I came on these forums and noticed others with the same problem. One said changing his battery worked, and on other threads many people said the battery was the problem and that it was probably dead.
So, I try jumping my Tacoma and it starts right up perfectly. So its the battery, right? I go get a new battery, put that in and thats when things go weird. Now it won't start, it wont even go clickclickclickclick. But my hazard lights come on automatically and I get permanent beeping noise like I left keys in the ignition even when the keys aren't in the ignition, just opening the door begins the sound.
I tried jumping it, NADA!
So I put the old battery back in and it is now acting like the new battery did. I cant even jump it now, and I dont get the clickclickclickclick sound either.
What happened between the time I pulled the old battery out and put the new battery in?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the connection quality on both ends of all the wires from the battery.
Pull the starter relay and reseat it.

If it is just a single click when you turn the key, see the following links. Very common problem and cheap fix.
