overheating w/ 2,000k miles?

i noticed my engine was running around 3/4 to 7/8 of the way up on the temp gauge. all of a sudden it dropped back down to 1/2 way then started the process again and again without perfect consistency. i seems like it could be the thermostat but my car only has like 21,000 miles on it. anyone else have this problem or any advice? thanks

i found the problem. i guess mitsubishi was getting quite a few complaints about this. they use pressure clamps instead of the tightenable clamps to hold the hoses onto the block/radiator. they will slowly seep until they harden from leaking into a chaulky green/white powder. that adds irregualar gaps in where the hose meets the block and will leak after it warms up mostly while driving (no wonder i couldn't find a leak). i just cleaned all the crud off mine. i guess i can get the adjustable clamps if it starts doing it again. this might be something to check on your cars for.

thats why i was losing radiator fluid! they replaced it for free only bcuz i'm still under 12k miles and said they'd never seen it as bad as mine, but that it was REALLY common

If your fluids are full and are the amount of coolint and water and your still having this problem take it in. I drove cross country from North Caralina to San Francisco 3 times in 7 months when i first got my eclipse and never did it rise more then half even thougth 150+ degrees temp across death valley or driving an average 700+ miles a day. take it in and get it checked out.
