300 TD Trans

I was given a 1987 300TD that needs a rebuilt Trans.I have ordered the trans and T/C which I will get next week. I plan on doing the work myself, But would like a repair manual to guide me. Problem is I cant find one.Does anybody know of any? Thanks

The cdrom from your favorite dealer or from Rusty Cullen at 800-741-5252. Most transmissions in 124.133 exhibit problems due to loss of vacuum. The vacuum modulator on the driver's side of the transmission, comes pre-adjusted but after 17years it might need replacing. Several of the white vacuum lines in the engine compartment become brittle and leak. At this age they should all be replaced. The hose exiting the top of the vacuum pump feeds into an "H" shaped fitting. Remove the lines on the left side and plug the holes. The transmission will shift like butter because of the increase in vacuum. Mercedes dealers sell an "F" shaped fitting (part# 601-078-06-45) to replace the "H" shaped one. Don't forget to change the tranny fluid every other year. P.
