Intresting '40 Ford Cabriolet -WIP- (56K Warning)

Well, I had a 40% off coupon for Michaels, and decided to go buy another model. So I got a '40 Cabriolet for less than $5. It was an opened box, and it was the last one, so I bought it. Except theres a problem with the windsheild frame. Im going to try heating it to fix it before I start the body work.

Now that's a bargain! If nothing else works it doesn't look that hard to just cut away the warped portion and scratch build a new one.

Good luck!

Well, if the heating it doesnt work, you could always make it a custom, chop the frame down a bit to make it a lower roofline, and just try and splice the old parts into the top :)

Right now, I think I'm going to chop it off, and build a lower, and longer sweeping windesheild.

That looks like a cool vehicle. I usually see a fully restored 1:1 version driving around here every now and again.
Good luck.

You could do one of those cool frameless wrap-around windsheilds. Then all you'd have to do is flex some clear styrene to shape.

Looks like a neat project Mike. The top of the windshield frameless would work.

Been working on the '40 for awhile. I've built the kits frame to see how high it sits stock (no pics :() Turns out, I will probably end up scratchbuilding a frame, or rather a series of frames for my other hot rods. Anyway, I started the body work, the big part, is the roof. Windsheild frame and roof will be completely scratch built. I also sanded off all the hinges, and trim, and most of the mold lines I've found.

What are you`r plans for this model , engin, tranny ,rear end , wheels and tires ?

Engine: Convert the HiPro Flathead V8 to EFI

Wheels/Tires: Aoshima Cerebrus

Been at work like crazy. Im amazed at how much I have completed thus far. Hood is about 75% complete. Now I need to scratchbuild, or extensively modify the stock roof. This outta be tricky. Here are some snapshots for you. (and no, those rims are not staying even though they do look pretty under there.)

Just another note real quick. You will notice I filled the rear "deck" where the roof and roof bags are supposed to go. Its all covered in putty, but theres a load of strip styrene under there to give it the form.

Nah, for this one Im going smooth and flowing. And the roof now is lower than it was stock. Besides, I hate that rat rod style.

I like the bonnet modification but seriously, you have to chop the windshield frame! It looks good on the side profile but because its so narrow it looks silly from any other angle. I would cut atleast one third off from it, but thats just me:D

im not a rat rod fan either, but those pillers are hugh looking

IMHO the windshield looks kinda tall. Do not confuse chopping a windshield to the rat-rod style, the chop will give it a more sleek and slope back look! More like a modern street rod!!!!

I've been spending the last week in R&D for the frame. I thought just C-Notching it would be a sinch...keyword, thought. Pretty much all the frame suspension is useless, including the front which I have yet to design. I notched the rear, then notched the floor board. After that I started trying to design routes for the cross members to coincide with the suspension, which pretty much did nothing but cause a heap of problems. All-in-all, its well worth it. Heres the progress so far.

The reason why Im waitin' to do the front end is because I just ordered new rims. 18" Kranze Cerberus. Anybody know how long Best1Hobby takes to ship?

(BTW, I'll try to post more pics tonight of the new interior, and the body, except everything is puttied up)

Enjoy!

Been busy at work, hoping to have a good bit done for NNL. Rear end is nearing completion, hood is almost done. Im molding the taillights flush. I added the chrome trim. Im starting the design of the engine cover. Scratchbuilt a interior panel. Last but not least, got my Aoshima Cerberus rims.:naughty:
