Starting faster and shifting in drag racing

I have little experience other than on the street of just playing around with my car, but I want to take it to a 1/4 mile track and really hit it. I really need to know if any of you have constructive suggestions as to launching and the things involved after that. Are there special ways of shifting? I understand to take out everything that's not necessary weight wise (weight reduction! :iceslolan ). What else can I be doing while driving it to help my times and can some of these things be applicable to just street racing the red mustang next to me.

BTW, I have a 1998 Integra GS-R, with NGK wires, NGK Iridium plugs, and an AEM cold air intake. (dunno if any of those will make a difference in how I should drive the car)

The first few times at the track are just practice. Try launching at different RPMs until you find the one that gives you the best 0-60 time, yet still gives you goo traction. I'd say start at 2500 and work your way up by 500 rpms each time (3000 on second run), and jsut work it like that until you find yourself reving too high and then back it down by a 100 rpms each time until you find the sweet spot. I'd say it'd probably be around 2500-3500 rpms. You find the right rpm and get good reaction times, and 0-60 times; then all you have to worry about is not missing gears. I don't personally like street racing, but that's just my opinion. But at least at the track you'll have a time slip to tell help you out and knowing which way of launching your car works best for your car.

Any driving other than regular driving will wear your clutch down at least a little.

Not to sound like a dick. But any driving period is gonna wear the clutch down a little. Hence the reason even without racing at all you will eventually have to replace the clutch. Dumping the clutch is what kills it.

Not to sound like a dick, but driving period wears down almost all parts of the car. The more miles your car has, the more likely your powerwindow motor will go out. Tires will go bald, dome light will blow, hell, your paint will fade. Lets think about it.

See Frankie, its post like these that get you banned. Driving doesnt wear those parts down, it's time that does that, your clutch isn't gonna blow out by just sitting in the car pushing the pedal down. But if you play with the window while the battery is on, that'll mess up power windows.

I see. You are right in most cases. Time is what wears the paint down, but if the car is not being used, the mirrors, windows, leather seats, and even car speakers wont be used either.
