Hey all. Im going to do an oil change myself. From looking at it, it seems easy. Correct me if Im wrong?

1) Drain oil
2) Take off filter
3) Install filter
4) Top up oil

How much oil in a 95 ESi?

Im also changing the oilin my bros 95 century. Same thing?
Thanks

Your car should take about 4.5 quarts along with your bros car. Changing is VERY easy and self explanitory. I would always start off with a little less oil if you are unsure, start the car, turn it off and then check the oil. It is always easier to add oil than it is to remove a specific amount!

the "hard" and "easy" parts as far as im concenrned are related to the ease of reach of bolts, and how easily they can come undone... Taking out the stock airbox is an "easy" job, but it took me 2 hours to take out 3 bolts that has somehow "fused" into the metal...

Sphyder, you just confused me there with that post, as far as I know there's only one bolt that you need to take out of the oilpan...
And yeh, oil changes are really simple. I personally use 10w-40 Castrol GTX.
You listed the steps, drain oil, remove and replace filter, make sure you put the bolt back in the pan and tighten it (forgot to tighten it once, oops) and put in about 4 qts, start and run, then put in another half qt or so, then check the oil level. Simplest thing you can do car maintainance wise.
Oh yeah, quick tip. take some oil from the filter you just took off and coat the sealing ring on the new one you're puttin on. I've been told that'll prevent it from gettin stuck to the frame when you take it off next.

Jesus dude paying 15 dollars for an oil change is just stupid. Do that shit yourself.

Eskimo Marine, I was talking about general removal of parts, not oil change in particular, in relation to the "ease" or "difficulty" of doing something yourself.

As far as the original poster, its good to see that ppl are actually trying to do things themselves. Oil change is as easy as it gets. The steps are listed in the posts above, and if your not sure about something you can check your eclipse guide book, thats if you have one.

Good Luck!

What's with the high performance recycled oil? Is it any good? The whole Recycled thing is kinda scary.

I'll never have mine changed at Wal-Mart again!!! They broke my dipstick off really far in there. They wouldn't replace it or take it out either, because it wasn't their fault. Huh?!?! How isn't it their fault!!! My friend went nuts on the guy. I ended up getting like $200 gift certificate...got me a new Xbox with that. But I still had to get it out. Luckily my dad's friend had this goofy looking thing that would reach way in there and after about an hour he was able to pull it out. Boy was I pissed. So know I either do it myself or take it to the next town over and they do it for $20 and have it done in less than 10 mins.

Yeah, I heard that if you have tire locks, they won't touch your wheel. It's rediculous. They make you take the wheel off yourself, cause if they break one of the locks it won't be their fault either.

Thats bullshit.

Im going to change my oil on friday or so. I need to buy a filter wrench and oil pan. Where can I get the old oil recylcled? IDK about u guys, but being in the city, we cant throw it out or anything. 10W-30 Castrol is good to use? How about that high milage sht. My car got about 82K+ on it. Any better?

Definately stick with Mobil 1 full synthetic. If you have a firestation nearby, (Not sure what its like in your state) they have used oil recylcing on premises.

Jesus, oil is oil, it doesn't make a difference what brand it is.... Synthetic is just watered down with several additives, and all non synthetic oil is the same except for the different weights.

i buy my oil filters from mitsu parts department, they give you the oem filter and o ring for the drain plug. in spokane the manufacture recomends 5w-30 becasue it gets -10 below sometimes. just use the oil guide in your owners manual. and use a mitsu filter.

Actually, you aren't even close! Most synthetics are made from "base stock hydrocarbons". These are man-made (thus the name synthetic) and refined to provide consistency throughout the oil. Such as molecular size, shape, mass, etc. Because of this molecular refinement, synthetics have been scientifically proven to lubricate better than conventional motor oils. Also, different companies use different synthetic base stocks, so not all synthetics are created equal. So thanks for the post filled with nothing but misinformation! :nono:

Um... Yeah, I thought what he said was just a little off. I'd like to see how well his Z28 runs. Excuse me, I mean his LeSabre and Accord.

:twak: What is he thinking!?
