well damn that sucks, just killed that dream! well why nothing older than a r32, and only 2 doors...but why, there alot of other skylines out there! sucks that you can only get a r31 or just a 4 door sedan.

because the market for them isnt as great as it is for the GT-R's. besides...why spend 16-25 thousand to legalize a car that is only worth around 2 or 3 thousand? not worth it....if people are going to spend that much money, they want the works. GT-R and up models all the way.

which brings a question to mind......since the body is the same on the M-Specs, would the legalization be the same for them, or would the government not even allow it?

The last GT-R before the r32 was produced in 1973. and if you dont want an r32-r34, you can get an OLD GT-R. if the car is older than 25 years it doesnt have to be legalized (god knows why....older cars of all need it more than newer ones).

So your saying that you don't need to legalize it, just ship it to the U.S?

:2cents: well i did hear of a law kind of like the one in canada, 15year old rule, not sure! i think its 20 or 25 year old for the US. Correct me if im wrong.

its 15 years for canada, 25 years for US. unfortunatly, the r31 or r30 qualify for this. you could get a skyline 2000GT and toss an RB in it :D ive seen old school GT-R's with rb26dett swaps. they look pretty insane. my3rdskyline posted some pics of one a while back. i noticed it when i was reading some old posts.

this means nothing. The Skyline 4 door was also called the GT-S or GT-St if it were turbo. According to this chart, no R32GTS-T's were allowed either, so it is a GTR or a N/A POS.

Either way, It is still cheaper to purchase the vehicle yourself through a broker and have it brought over. This insures you get the car you want in the condition you want and not just a car Motorex was able to lay their hands on for a cheap price, legalize, and then pawn off on someone who just wants a GTR.

Yeah, Motorex really jacked up the Skyline's info when they petitioned it for importation. First, like you mentioned the did it for GTS/GTR. So, if some anal Customs agent wants to get, well, anal, he could deny a GTS25, GTS-t or GTS4. Second, there is no mention of the Skyline name, if they had just done Nissan Skyline, the GXi and GTE could be imported, not that anyone would want to, except me since I swapped my engine. Third, they didn't specify 2 or 4 door on the petition.

Motorex will not import 4 doors. The fact is, neither the import petition or their price list mentions anything about 2 or 4 doors. But when I was getting ready to leave Japan and didn't know if I was going to the US or England, I contacted Motorex about getting mine imported if I did return to the US. They said the can't import 4 doors because they never crash tested them and to contact a different RI. So I did, and when they heard the name Skyline, most refered me to Motorex. When I told them I did and they wouldn't do it because it was a 4 door. The other RI's said the petition doesn't specify, so it should be able to be done by Motorex. There was one RI I contacted (Wallace Labs in Texas) that said they would be able to do it, but it would have been starting from scratch, shipping a second to the US to crash test it, new petition, etc. Nothing I could even dream of affording! So, my Skyline is stuck with no RI being able to touch it.

Doesnt Wallace Labs only do EPA/FTP testing? so they would need to sub-contract out all the crash testing and other work, only adding to your cost.

That's what I though originally. I contacted them anyways and found out that they do everything. If you look at the RI list:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/web_RI_list07142004.html

They have every business interest code, which means non US/Canada passenger car requiring a new petition (for 4 door).

For actual crash tests, they would have to contract that out. But like I was saying, having them do the entire import from scratch, crash testing, buying and shipping a second car over for that, etc. is something I could not possibly afford.

and the crash testing....its not just one car. the crash tests have to be done on 3 separate cars of the same make/model to get consistant and average results.

Well, as Skyline USA basically said, no.

Right now, the vehicle would have to have been produced by October 1979 to fit in under the 25 year exemption. The R31 wasn't produced until '85. You can't even get an R30 (RS would be VERY nice!), it wasn't produced until '81. The newest Skyline you could get in under the 25 year exemption is the C211 body.

thats why you buy an old school GT-R and give it a heart trasnplant with a rb26dett. ive seen it done :D things can be VERY quick due to their weight.

Hey, it's good to see an old Okinawan hangout. The Highway 58 Lawsons.

Anyways, is that someone you know? And do you have any engine pics.

The reason I'm asking is because the plates don't match. It's an American's R31, but the registration catagory (501) is right for a stock one (under 2.5L, no modifications, etc.), but not for one with an RB26 transplant. It has to have the paperwork changed, and one of the things that changes is that it becomes a 300 series plate because the engine type has been modified from it's original configuration. The ID Plate on the firewall and the title have to be changed to state the new engine type. It's a pain... but without that being done, it will not go through it's annual JCI.

the owner of this car is named furgie. he was in the shop takin his RB26 out of that 31 the same day I was in the shop taking the engine out of my first crashed skyline. that's fucking funny man. I believe that engine is now in either a 240Z or a 300ZX in the united states now. As far as the chasis of that R31, well.... just drive out to the sunabe sea wall in okinawa and have a look for yourself, it's sitting in a driveway.

my3rdskyline

see mike and transmission, see furgie. see the R31 above. They put me
to shame though, it took them like 2 hours to get that engine out and
they had a flat spot. took me and 3 friends about 4 hours with a lift. But
I never did it before so....

the two guys standing next to the 31 are furgie (left) and some other
guy (right) the other guy is the guy who ownes the chasis now.

what a gay picture of me... :-(
