long story short...i have a 91 civic LX with the 1.5L motor in it. I broke a rod and it broke a chunk out of the main bearing cap. went to honda to see if i could get one. they said i have to get the whole block. $1600...i don't think so. anyone know where i can get this piece?
thanks,

So what you need to get is a rod and a main bearing? Thats it? Are you considering to ever do a motor swap in your car? If so, nows a great time to do one. A swap for a d16z6, d16y8, or a zc will cost you around $600. Your car would be considerably faster and youd have less miles on your motor. If you really want to fix up that d15b2, a used rod from someone on here will probly be like $30 or less, new bearings (dont just replace one) will be about $40 off ebay. Theres a bunch of stuff you should get like a head gasket (~$40), maybe rings, might even need to hone the cylinders, i dunno. If I were you id look into a new engine.

nah it's the main bearing cap that is shattered. it a long piece of metal that kinda goes around the bottom of the crank.

there's a pic there of it. that's what i need. i was just going to get new pistons, rings, rods for it and put it back together. don't care so much how fast it is. i have another car for that. i e-mail someone at a salvage yard about a block they have and whether or not this cap came with it. here's what he said:
"Yes, In fact a block is basically worthless without the bearing caps, as they are line bored to be a perfect fit with the block half of each bearing surface......
You can change just a bearing cap, but then you must have the crank surface line bored to restore this perfect fit.....
Thanks - - - - Dave"
sucks. i wasn't looking to pull all of that out. i just rebuilt the top half!
