I was drive down the road when my check engine light came on and then when you would give it gas it would jerk like it was out of gas. But when you kill the car it stops jerking, but the light stays on for a few hours then goes out. It has done it to me twice in two days. Has anyone heard of this happening or had it happen to them.

Did you ever find out what caused this? I'm having the same problem with a 2004 Dodge Stratus SE. Periodically, the check engine light will come on. While it is on, the engine cuts out when the tach hits about 2800 RPM. As long as I keep the tach below 2800, it runs fine. If the car sits for a while, the check engine light resets, and the car runs fine. I suspect a sensor problem. Did you remember what caused it for your car?

Turn the ignition switch on, off, on, off, on and count the number of flashes. It will pause between the numbers. The trouble code will tell you the problem. Match the number with the trouble.
