Loud Pipes

Give me a break! Loud pipes make no sence. They annoy the hell outta me. All the time i hear people drive by my house with these loud ass pipes to make their car sound 'more powerful' ( or better than it really is) and its pathetic. One evening I was detailing my car one and what not, and then i hear this extremely loud sound (noise). I look up and see a some SUV going about 5 mph. And then people have the nerve to put it on Calvaliers!? Make your car go fast instead of portraying fake speed with cheap sound effects. Though I have lots of respect for loud powerful motors. But you know its bad when you hear that noise on 92 Chevy pickups. Thats my opinion. If you have some sound off.

when(if) i do my exhaust i'm doing most of the intermediate piping and stock muffler. i can't stand the sound you're talking about. my friends are all into civics and they all sound like shit, they're fast, but the sounds they produce are obnoxious.

I have a Calvalier and my pipes are pretty loud.

A. I did it for the performance gain, not the noise. And yes, there was a considerable gain.

B. I happen to like the sound.

C. Whats wrong with Calvaliers?

And D. LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES!

The worst sound in the world has to be a ricer with one of those fart-mufflers. Sounds like an anemic vacuum cleaner.

I'm thinkin bout getting one of those Aero Turbine Exhausts (http://www.aero-turbine.com), but mounting it up in place of my resonator(i think that's the thing), between my cat and muffler, and remove the stock muffler. It will give me the performance gain, but not be as loud as if it were at the same spot as the stock muffler...Maybe get the sport model and replace both muffler and resonator...i dunno, but definately that brand.

My nova has turndowns(a muffler coming directly off the header with a 5 inch long piece of pipe off the back of the muffler turned towards the ground). Its extremely loud and pretty much deafening to ride in when your accelerating. I know your talking about loud pipes on riceburners, but the loud pipes on my Nova sounds great IMO :) .

I love loud pipes on V-8's...any V-8's. I like loud pipe(s) on any turboed car, but otherwise they sound really funny.

ive got my ram 5.9 v8 piped. Its not that over powering roar but a nice rumble. Not to quiet not to loud, just right for me.

It all depends on how loud and what kind of engine. If its a V8 with a big exhaust then it always sounds perfect. i don't think i've ever heard a bad sounding louder than stock exhaust on a v8. On the other hand many people have a straight through exhaust with no mufflers in their v6's and 4cylinders which, for the majority, not all but majority, sound like downrigt sh*t. But definitely, on a V8 or tuned turbo them exhausts sound sweeeeet once done properly.

Yeah I feel ya on the loudness..

Seems like every car nowadays from your suzuki swift to your 1.5L lancer, has a cannon sticking out the backend. Even worse is the people with faster cars who put even bigger ones on, then comment that they atleast have the power..

sounds like LMS

I'm pretty much in agreeance with zWrangler. Although I'm getting pretty sick of the piped trucks because everybody and their brother has a fucking pickup with straight pipes in my town. 4 banger wise, there are many ways to screw it up. I like exhausts that emit a deep sound, but there some that sound like a saxaphone reed mouthpiece got glued to the muffler. Not a big fan of those...For some reason, rotaries sound good with basically any muffler on them.

THe majority of aftermarket exhausts are a 500% increase in noise for a 5% increase in power.

Fucking stupidity when you can have 4% out of 5% gain for only a slight increase in noice with the right exhaust system design - sounding almost stock.

Tuned length headers with a reasonably free flowing muffler.

But people will never get over the 'look-at-me,i-rent-my-canon-exhaust-to-homeless-people-to-make-car-payments' attention whore mentality.

I Find that product very very hard to believe, just by bolting on a can some people have gained near 25 hp, it's bs for the most part unless you running a turbo'd vehicle you won't see gains like that thats even when bolting on a full system including header and all.

YUCK on most ricers. I am willing to put the TRD Sport muffler on for a try... The stock intake is loud as shit anywhere above 2400 the engine has a nice sound... But nothin like the straight pipe roar of a V-8. My friend put the SLP Loud mouth on his LS1 camaro. Sounds sweet.

I'd hope that someone at least knows how to spell the name of their own car.

My exhuast guy had to put 3 mufflers on the rx-3 and the car is still louder than 95% of the cars on the street. We are going to have to put another muffler on there.

I Installed a K&N Intake, AirFlow sensor and Flowmaster Dual exhaust system on my Silverado. I have noticed an increase in low end power and better gas mileage when towing the dirtbikes or the boat, My truck isn't obnoxious, it has a nice rumble to it. I also have a 79' Chevy Custom Deluxe pickup that I use for Crap jobs. It has a 350 v8 with a high rise initake manifold, 600cfm edelbrock 4 barrel carb. the truck has headers with two glass packs. Very Obnoxious.. I believe you spend enough money on your car, insurance, taxes etc.. Its yours...Do what you want with it.

Just because a car is better, putting a huge cannon tip on , there is no excuse..

I have this asshat living nearby who put a 5" muffler tip on his rx7(12a turbo) with a BOV.
The BOV is just way too loud especially on a turbo rotary. And what d'ya know? he's about 5' something, LMS coming back....

Dual exhaust on a V8 at any volume is music to my ears.

I have lots of kids with loud exasts on my campus. One kid has a STi that he put this huge fart can on. The damn thing sounds like an airplane its very discusting, he drives around campus reving the engine so you can hear the BOV all the time. Plus he has no clue what a turbo is I swear he just shuts off the car and goes to class :uhoh: .
The other kid has a Mustang Cobra SVT with no mufflers just pipes from the headers, (and some other tune up work) the thing is frikkin loud as hell bout sounds sooo wonderful, you can litteraly hear it a mile away when he goes WOT.

:iagree:

I had an S10 with a V8 350 with headers, straight pipes and glasspacks !!!!

Fringe benefit was hitting the gas and setting off car alarms !!!!

I was considering Sneaker pipes like cobra's and Vipers for the blazer, but I need the backpressure to keep my motor running, so I can't unfortunately. If you guys don't like noise, then you would probably hate my dad's Ducati.

There is a difference beteen "loud" and "annoying."
American V-8s can be loud, but 4-bangers with fart mufflers are simply annoying. Maybe that's why they have their stereos blasting rap music?

Heh. My car doesnt have any mufflers, its not much louder then the Camaro with stock exhaust, but its a little higher pitched, and doesnt have that V8 Gurgle..well..it does but not the extent of the Camaro.

This idiot tool jock at my school has a Black Honda Civic. The only thing hes done to it was some wheels, a hood, and dual exhaust (so its twice as worse) with that carbon fiber look. I dont think he realises that to make power with that small of an engine has has to rev it quite high. He always revs and shifts around 4g's. Sounds like total ass. A real fart, not a high pitched one, but the kinda fart you get after eating mexican food.

It was funny, in class today we started to talk about that kids honda, and they were saying that its actually a total POS "slow and rattles all over."

I did a round trip from NYC to VA once in my old Z-28 with a flow master. I’ve done it about a dozen times afterward in my stock civic. I gotta’ admit, I prefer quiet to rumble on the 4hr ride.

Loud exhaust for performance is fine no matter what the vehicle. But putting a fart can or straight exhaust on your pickup for the sound? Please.

Although the coolest loud exhaust I ever heard was a (now illegal) "Zoomie", 4 exhaust pipes on either side of the V-8, exiting just in front of the rear wheels. Each pipe had a small propeller in it. Wicked!

i dont mind loud pipes at all...but it all depends on tone. i know a guy with a mitsi mirage with a 2" straight system and single muffler...its sounds pretty good for an otherwise stock car.
then you have his friend who has a lancer and exhuast note sounds like a swarm of bees playing soccer with marbles in a milo tin.
then you've got me, the MR2 freakin shatbox) has a 2 1/4" of the extractors into a 5Zigen muffler its loud, but has a almost WRX throb under acceleration-with supercharger whistle thrown in-and at idle lumps away because of the 272 cams.
but no one i know classes it as obnoxious.
