i was wondering if anyone else had a problem with radio reception when they switched to an aftermarket radio. reception was good with factory radio but slapped in a Pioneer and i have no am and fm isn't that strong. all wires are soldered and the antenna wire has been eletrical taped. i was thinking it might be something to do with the tint on the back window: 35%. car is a 97 gp.

I experienced the same thing. Replaced the stock HU with a Sony and lost AM totally. The FM is good. Its not the tint. I didnt have tint when I did mine and after the tint the FM is still strong. I did need to use an adapter for the antenna lead. I'm wondering if that is filtering am frequencies or something.

make sure you grounded the chassis of the new radio to the car, not just the ground wire in the harness. Run an extra ground wire attached to the body of the radio. You're new unit may be searching for a ground thru the antenna, which will make your reception suck, especially AM.

I dont think it has anything to do w/ the tint, mine is 15% and i have no problems, but i also do have the stock radio. That antenna in the window is a good idea, but it looses reception more than my mas gp, she has the external antenna on her se.
