Bad Starting

I have a 98 Grand Am GT. Recently it has been taking several trys to get it to start. Several times I've had to turn the key off and then try and start it again. Also, two seperate times the car has just lost all power while driving down the road. Are these problems related? Could the starting problem be a crank sensor? Please help!
